What's the word?
This article over at NPR about odd regional colloquialisms around the United States -- like pigsticker, scramble dinner, and doodinkus -- is fun. But the one NPR lists for New York is "spiedie." Surely can we do better than that. (Here are a few more for New York from the University of Wisconsin's Dictionary of American Regional English project.) [via] Earlier: An Albany dialect?

How about "steamed hams"? If they say it on The Simpsons it must be true!
Chalmers: I thought you said we were having steamed clams?
Skinner: Oh no, I said 'steamed hams'. That's what I call hamburgers.
Chalmers: You call hamburgers steamed hams?
Skinner: Yes. It's a, regional dialect.
Chalmers: Oh yeah? What region?
Skinner: Er, upstate New York.
Chalmers: Really. Well I'm from Utica and I've never heard the phrase 'steamed hams' before.
Skinner: Oh no, not in Utica it's an, Albany expression.
