Victoria Pool season begins on Saturday

It's the weekend and there is plenty to do.

1st Friday
Friday: It's 1st Friday in Albany. Shops and galleries will be open late. A few things you might want to check out:
+ Brew is offering a sour beer tasting and Capital Wine will host a wine tasting.
+ The Romaine Books Gallery presents Fire & Flow, a showcase of talents of the LGBTQ and Allied Community with diverse works by Matthew Blanchfield, John McEnerney, Theo Zegers, and more.
+ The Albany Institute is open, admission free, from 5pm to 8pm
+ The Capital Swing Dance at the Albany Elks Club is headlined by the King Cohen Quartet.

Food trucks
Friday: As part of 1st Friday, the Fork in the Road food truck series will be set up in Tricentennial Park at Broadway and Columbia Street in Albany. Friday 4-8 pm

Art on Lark
Saturday: Art on Lark returns. Lark Street will be closed to traffic from Madison to Washington for artists to display their work, with music on stages on both ends of the street. Saturday 10 am-5 pm - free admission

Festivals

Troy Greek Festival
Friday-Sunday: St. Basil's in Troy is holding its annual Greek Fest this weekend. Greek music, dancing, foods, desserts, and family friendly fun. Friday 5pm to 10pm, Saturday noon to 10pm, Sunday 10am to 5pm - free admission

Armenian Festival
Saturday/Sunday: St. Peter's Armenian Church in Watervliet is hosting its annual Armenian Festival this weekend with Armenian music, dancing, culture, carnival games, cooking demonstrations, food and drinks. Saturday noon to 8pm, Sunday noon to 5pm - Free admission.

Kids' Arts Festival
Saturday: Schenectady's annual Kids' Art Festival is outside Schenectady City Hall on Jay Street (rain location: inside City Hall). More than 30 hands-on craft activities, street performers, music and more. Saturday noon to 4 pm - free admission

Hudson River Family Day
Saturday: Historic Cherry Hill hosts Hudson River Family Day. Colonial games, reenactors, rare artifacts and free ice cream. Saturday 1pm to 4pm - free.

Schenectady Celtic Heritage Day
Saturday: Mabee Farms Historic Site hosts Schenectady Celtic Heritage Day -- a day of Celtic music, blacksmithing, sheep shearing, a craft fair and kids activities. Saturday 11am to 7pm - $10 per vehicle

Cambridge Balloon Festival Car Show
Saturday/Sunday: Hot air balloons, vintage cars, fireworks and family-friendly fun at this weekend's Balloon Festival and Car Show in the Washington County town of Cambridge. Friday 6pm to 10pm, Saturday 5:30am to 10pm, Sunday 5:30am to 2pm - $10 per vehicle

Tea
Friday: Tea tastings, seminars, and vendors at the Albany Tea Festival at the offices of Overit Media on New Scotland Avenue in Albany. Organizers are touting the festival as "the Capital Region's leading experts on tea in one room." Friday, 5:30pm to 9pm - free admission

GE Realty Plot House & Garden Tour
Saturday/Sunday: The biennial GE Realty Plot home and garden tour returns to the neighborhood just east of Union College. (The neighborhood was built in the early 20th century for GE executives and its layout was inspired by Central Park.) Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4pm - tickets are $25.00 each and can be purchased at Marty's True Value, The Open Door Bookstore, Experience and Lange Pharmacy

Americade
The Americade motorcycle rally is underway in Lake George and continues through Saturday with demos, shows, vendors, rides and other motorcycle related events. Lake George villiage will be overflowing with motorcycles, but bikers ride all over the Capital Region, so watch for them on the roads.

Roller Derby
Saturday: The Albany All Stars have their final bout of the season this at the Washington Avenue Armory. Saturday at 7 pm -- $10 advance, $12 day of, $4 kids under 12

Swimming

Victoria Pool
The Victoria Pool in Saratoga Spa State Park opens on Saturday. The pool will be open on weekends only until June 27. 10 am-6 pm - $8 adults / $4 kids / kids under 5 free

Beach
The beaches at Moreau Lake State Park and Grafton Lakes State Park State are open for the season.

Theater

Dog Sees God
Friday/Saturday: Creative License theater company presents Dog Sees God - Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, a play that imagines the popular Peanuts characters as teenagers. Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm - $15

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Friday-Sunday: Christopher Durang's Tony-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike continues this weekend at Curtain Call Theater. Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm - $24

Comedy

Spontaneous Broadway
Friday: The Mop & Bucket Company continues its season of Spontaneous Broadway in the Underground at Proctors. In the first act, performers improvise songs on the spot from audience suggestions. Then the audience selects one song and performers turn it into an entire improvised Broadway musical. Friday 8 pm - $14 / $6 for students & seniors

Mountain Jam
Friday-Sunday: The Mountain Jam music festival returns to Hunter Mountain in the Catskills. This year's headliners include The Black Keys, Robert Plant, Alabama Shakes, Gov't Mule, Grace Potter, Moe., and Michael Franti. day passes are $49 and up / multi-day passes are $215 and up

The Hitchcock classic Vertigo is screening this weekend at The Madison Theater.

Goodbye Mr. Chips
The Bowtie in Saratoga Springs is screening Goodbye Mr. Chips, with Peter O'Toole and Petula Clark as this week's Movies and Mimosa feature. Saturday and Sunday at 11am.

Heavy Metal
The animated cult film Heavy Metal is this week's Insomnia Theater film at the Saratoga Springs Bow Tie. Friday and Saturday at 11:30pm.

Capital Pride
The annual Capital Pride celebration is underway at various locations. This weekend there's a cruise on Friday and a 5K on Sunday. The big pride parade and festival is not this weekend, but next - Saturday, June 13.

Troy's Amazing Architecture
Saturday: The Rensselaer County Historical Society's weekly walking tour is focused on Collar City architecture this week. The tour meets at the Troy Farmers Market on Saturday at 10:30am - $5.

Jane Smiley
Friday: Tickets are sold out for Pulitzer Prize-winner Jane Smiley's conversation with the Saratoga Springs Library director Issac Pulver at Northshire Bookstore. Friday at 7pm.

Plant swap and sale
Saturday: The Friends of the Clifton Park Library are hosting a plant swap and sale. Most plants .50 to $3. Saturday, 10am to 1pm - free admission

Brunch for Farmland Protection
Sunday: Buckley Farm in Ballston Lake hosts a brunch on the farm to benefit the conservation of working farmland in Saratoga County. The brunch will feature products from area farms and includes a tour of Buckley Farm. Sunday 10 am to noon - $40, $10 for kids under 10

Karner Blue Butterfly Walk
Sunday: The Albany Pine Bush Preserve hosts a 0.9 mile hike to see the rare Karner blue butterfly. Ages 15+. Sunday 1-2:30pm - $3 per person/$5 per family (registration required)

Art

Best of SUNY Student Art Exhibition
The NYS Museum hosts the 2015 Best of SUNY art exhibition, showcasing art from SUNY students around the state. Open through September 6.

Sculpture Park Party
Saturday: Salem Art Works is hosting its annual Sculpture Park Party at its Cary Hill Sculpture Park to open its 11th season. Music, comedy, food, sculpture park tours, vendors and beer samples from Argyle brewing Company. Saturday 3pm to 9pm - $10

Berkshire Botanical Garden
The Berkshire Botanical Garden is open for the season. It's a nice day trip.

Farmers' markets
Capital Region farmers' markets are outdoors:
+ The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market will be on River Street on Saturday from 9 am-2 pm.
+ The Saratoga Farmers' Market will be in High Rock Park. Saturday from 9 am-1 pm
+ The Delmar Farmers Market recently opened for the season at Bethlehem Central Middle School. Saturday 9 am-1 pm
+ The Schenectady Greenmarket will be around Schenectady City Hall. Sunday from 10 am-2 pm.
+ The Spa City Farmers' Market will be outside the Lincoln Baths Sunday from 10 am-3 pm
