"Thankfully, Buffalo is the land that Taco Bell forgot."
Upstate as viewed by others, an oniong series:
The New York Times considers growth in Buffalo powered by the renewable energy industry ("The change in Buffalo is so evident that parents who once told their children to seek their fortunes elsewhere are now telling them to come back.").
And Eater explores some of the noted food fare of Buffalo and Rochester ("Yet its proletarian population persists, haunting the same bars, doughnut shops, drive-ins, and cafes that thrived 50 and 100 years ago, in a city largely uncontaminated by national franchises.") -- served with a side of gentle condescension.

Going to college in western New York, a semi-annual tradition would be to go stuff ourselves with wings at Duffs, have a Mighty Taco burrito for dessert, and drive the hour back to Rochester without throwing up. A+, good times.
The wings at the Ruck are perfect competition for Duff's, but walking to Jose Malone's to get a burrito afterwards just feels wrong. I'm also not 20 anymore.
