Happy Autumn!

In typical fall fashion this weekend is packed with festivals, corn mazes, music, theater, and all kinds of other stuff to do. So finish putting away your summer clothes and make some plans. The weekend awaits.

Troy Night Out
Friday: Troy Night Out returns to the Collar City. Shops and galleries are open late with music, art and discounts. Here are a few things to check out:
+ Market Block Books is hosting a reading of challenged or banned books.
+ The Arts Center of the Capital Region will host a game jam with a giant outdoor screen from 5-9 pm, free.
+ Ekologic will have live models, music, and Enchanted City costumes for next week's festival.

Oktoberfest Block Party
Saturday: The annual Wolff's Biergarten Oktoberfest Block Party returns to Broadway in Albany's Warehouse District. Music, German food, beer, racing wiener dogs, and more. Saturday 11am to 7pm -- $10 ahead / $20 day of

Hyperplace Troy
Friday-Saturday: Hyperplace Troy is a weekend of events centered on "contemporary notions of place have shifted and expanded as technology and mobility touches the lives of local and global communities." The weekend includes media and visual artists, readings, performances, workshops, and discussions in an effort to bring artists and audiences from various backgrounds together and "foster engagement, sparking new discoveries and conversations." Friday 5-9 pm / Saturday 1-9 pm

Albany History Race
Saturday: The Albany History Race is a scavenger hunt through the city's historic neighborhoods. It starts at the Albany Public Library's Washington Avenue Branch where teams will get their clues. The teams will document visits to the historic stops by using mobile phone photos. The event ends at McGeary's Pub where participating teams will get discounts on food and drink, and the fastest teams will get prizes. Participation is free but teams must have their own cars and you need to register. Saturday 1-4 pm - free

Stockade Walkabout
Saturday: This year's Stockade Walkabout includes tours of seven historic homes in Schenectady's Stockade district, plus entertainment, exhibits, and a look inside some of the area's historic churches. Saturday 11am to 5pm -- $20 in advance / $25 at the event

Troy preRAMBLE / StoryHarvest Festival
Saturday: The Troy preRAMBLE -- and alternative transportation festival -- will include group bike tours, kayak rides, bike safety classes, and giveaways. The day-long festival concludes with a tour to Freedom Square, 101st St and 6th Ave. Saturday 9:30 am-2 pm - free

And that's the site of the Sanctuary for Independent Media's fifth annual StoryHarvest, with music from the world music big band TriBeCaStan, a community meal, art and more. Saturday 3-6 pm - free

Legally Blonde
Friday-Sunday: Schenectady Light Opera opens its season with Legally Blonde, the musical based on the film of the same name. Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm - $22 and up

A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder
Friday-Saturday: The national tour launch of the Broadway musical <A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder continues at Proctors. various times and prices

4000 Miles
Friday-Sunday: Capital Rep opens its season with the award winning dramatic comedy 4000 Miles, which is in previews this weekend. "Seeking solace at the end of his cross-country bike trip, 21-year old Leo arrives unannounced at the Greenwich Village apartment of his 91-year old Jewish grandmother, Vera. Instead, he gets a big life lesson from his former outspoken, activist grandma. Over the course of a single month, these two outsiders infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately change one another forever." Death of a Salesman
Friday-Sunday: Classic Theater Guild opens a new production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. Friday & Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 2 pm

The Commons of Pensacola
Friday-Sunday: Curtain Call Theater presents The Commons of Pensacola. The play, by actress Amanda Peet, is based on the wife of notorious Wall Street scam artist Bernie Madoff. Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm - $24

Craig Ferguson: The New Deal Tour
Sunday: Former CBS Late, Late Show host, comedian, actor, and author Craig Ferguson brings his stand-up act to Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Sunday 8pm -- $37-$57

Friday: Think Whose Line is it Anyway? The Mop & Bucket Company returns to Proctors Underground to compete in improv games, creating scenes and songs based on audience suggestions. Friday 8 pm - $14 / $6 students and seniors.

Saratoga Showcase Of Homes
Saturday-Sunday: This is the second weekend for the Saratoga Showcase of Homes. It's a self-guided tour of homes around Saratoga County. A new addition to the tour this year: food trucks at some of the stops. Saturday and Sunday 11 am-5 pm - $20 (tickets available at any showcase home)

Antique Truck Show

Lakeside Farms Antique Show
Sunday: Lakeside Farms in Ballston Lake hosts is annual antique show. Sixty dealers indoors and outdoors. Sunday 9am to 4pm - free admission

Rock Your Style
Friday: Rock Your Style, a fashion show/fundraiser for Trinity Alliance of the Capital Region, will be held in Peter D. Kieran Plaza -- the former Union Station -- on Broadway in Downtown Albany. Friday at 8pm - $55 and up

Museums/Galleries

The Capital Region in 50 Objects
The Albany Institute of History and Art recently opened ts new exhibit, The Capital Region in 50 Objects. The show, open through April, is a look at 400 years of Capital Region history through 50 objects, selected with the input of Capital Region residents. Each item is paired with a background image that helps to tell its story. Among the objects included are William Kennedy's Typewriter, the Hoffman's Playland ticket booth, a bust of Henry Johnson, Arrow collars, cannons and Erastus Corning's desk. Here's a preview.

Also at the Albany Institute:
Seeing Double, an exhibit with anaglyphs -- stereoscopic images that appear to be 3D when viewed through special glasses.

Local Eats: What Does Your Food Say About You? and
The Schenectady County Historical Society continues its exhibit called Local Eats: What Does your Food Say About You? at the Mabee Farm. It examines how the food we eat relates to politics, technology, and where you come from. $5 / free for students

Also at the Mabee Farm: An exhibit called #schenectadydoesntsuck, featuring a look at the Electric City through the lens of the popular local Instagram account #schenectadydoesntsuck.

Air, Fat, Sugar & CO2 Exhibition
The Arts Center of the Capital Region is hosting an exhibit by Greg Skochko titled Air, Fat, Sugar & CO2 -- an interactive art show. Blurbage: "Part circus act, part self-deprecating stand-up routine and science experiment, Greg Skochko constructs sculptures that function as fantastic mechanical objects, fused with plausible scenarios and characters of his conjuring. Encouraging viewers to participate in the performance spectacle, he collides a child-like playfulness with serious cultural issues such as American Capitalism, classism, and over-consumption." The show runs through October 10.

Whistler
The Whistler's Mother: Grey, Black, and White exhibit at The Clark closes this Sunday.

The Late Drawings of Andy Warhol
Friday-Sunday: It's closing weekend for The Hyde Collection's exhibit featuring some of Andy Warhol's drawings created between 1973 to 1987. Many of the drawings in this exhibit, from one of Warhol's most prolific periods, are on view to the public for the first time. Closes Sunday.

Movies

Detropia
Friday: The NYS Writers Institute film series presents Rachel Grady's film Detropia -- a documentary about "Detroit's spectacular disintegration and the seeds of hope planted in its vacant lots." Grady will be onhand for a Q&A following the film. Friday at 7:30 pm at UAlbany's Page Hall - free

La Strada: A Tribute to Italian Wine
Saturday: The Madison Theater continues its movies and wine tasting series with Fellini's La Strada. sample Italian wines from 6-8 pm / movie starts at 8:15 pm - $20

The Beaux Stratagem
The Spectrum is screening London's National Theater production of The Beaux Stratagem. Sunday at noon - $15
