Bread and Honey closed

The bakery/cafe Bread and Honey on Madison Ave in Albany has closed, Steve Barnes reports -- it may be temporary as owner Naomi Davies takes a break and/or finds a buyer. Last summer Davies talked with AOA about the challenges of running the bakery, which opened in March of 2014. [TU Table Hopping]

So sorry to hear that. I hope it reopens. Bread and Honey was such a good addition to my neighborhood.

We are neighbors who liked Naomi's baked goods and prepared foods and loved the look of the storefront, but were always unhappy to find inside the store looking bare of goods (as well as customers). She is all about quality which we crave in Albany. But the market here is meager, and you need to have enough on the shelves to attract regular customers. So sorry to see that this lovely vision created by such a fine lady never got rounded out enough to stay with us.

I agree with Dick...such great baked goods but I never felt as though I could order a dozen bagels for a family brunch, or quite frankly even four for my own family as it would have cleaned them out. I hope they can reopen, or another baker does. I would very much support it!

Unfortunate to see any small business like this fail. The baked goods were excellent but they struggled with the business side all along. There is a market for it, but its a tough business. I hope they find a buyer who can make it a success.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
