To fight monsters, we imported monsters
Over at the Syracuse Post-Standard there's an interesting article about a researcher working at SUNY ESF to see if wasps imported from Asia can fight the invasive emerald ash borer here in Upstate New York. (The beetles are killing off ash trees throughout the upper United States, including here in the Capital Region.) And how do the wasps do that? They paralyze the ash borer larvae, lay their eggs inside, and when the eggs hatch the new wasps eat the larvae from the inside out. [Syracuse.com]
