"These mountains are just getting pounded''

You might remember that recent appeal from the state Department of Enivoronmental Conservation for people to consider some of the less-popular hikes in the Adirondacks this fall because of increased hiking traffic on some of the High Peaks... Over at the Times Union, Rick Karlin looks at the big increase in the number people using the trails and the question of how to handle the crowds. [TU]

Exactly, please stop posting articles like "Getting Started Hiking the High Peaks...".

@John, I understand the sentiment, but I think there is value in that series. However, I think AOA ABSOLUTELY should be ensuring these issues are identified and called out FRONT AND CENTER at the head of each of those postings. "Enjoy the outdoors responsibly" is a much more effective message than pretending the area doesn't exist.

AOA's articles have highlighted many other areas and trails to hike - probably more in number than the posts specifically about the High Peaks. If anything, you should be complaining to the NYS Division of Tourism or the tourism orgs in Lake Placid.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
