We did a little checking and pulled together a list of options from you, from strolling with soup, to music and shows, to Mayor's Cup hockey, to Oscar-nominated films.

Troy Night Out
Friday: It's the first Troy Night Out of the year. Shops and galleries in the Collar City will be open late with art, performances, sales and surprises. A few things happening this month:
+ Hot chocolate hop -- sample various spins on hot chocolate from participating shops.
+ The Troy Innovation Garage hosts an evening of alternative histories.
+ DJ Trumastr hosts an 80s dance party at the Franklin Alley Social Club at Takk House.
+ Collar Works gallery opens Parallel Realities, a new show in which 14 established artists exhibit their work alongside 14 emerging artists of their choice.

Albany Wine About Winter Festival
Friday: The Albany Capital Center hosts the Albany Wine About Winter Festival, with wine, food, music and games. Friday 5-10 pm -- tickets are $27-$39

Takk House Snowball
Friday: The Takk House hosts its annual Snow Ball. Dress up and come to a grown-up prom. Friday 8-11 pm -- $65-$75

Schenectady Soup Stroll
Saturday: Sample soups from a variety of area restaurants at the Schenectady Soup Stroll. Saturday 11 am-4 pm -- $1 per 3-oz cup of soup

Capital Roots Garden Bowl
Saturday: Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy hosts the annual Garden Bowl, the winter bowl-a-thon to raise money for Capital Roots. Saturday 2-5 pm

Chili Bowl Fundraiser
Saturday: Saratoga Clay Arts Center in Schuylerville hosts its annual Chili Bowl fundraiser for breast cancer. Pick out a hand crafted bowl made by a local or national artisan, fill it with chili and keep the bowl. Saturday 11 am-4 pm -- $20 (sign up online for a time)

Proost!
Saturday: The Proost: A Brewed and Boozy sampling of 1790's Albany event at the Ten Broeck Mansion is sold out.

Hockey

Mayor's Cup Showdown
Saturday: The annual Mayor's Cup showdown between the Union and RPI hockey teams is at the TU Center. Saturday women's game 3 pm / men's game 6 pm -- $15 / $10 students and kids

Hoops

UAlbany
Saturday: The UAlbany women take on Stonybrook at SEFCU Arena. Saturday 2 pm -- $10

Outdoors

Grafton Lakes Winterfest
Saturday: Winterfest returns to Grafton Lakes State Park. Family friendly activities, a polar plunge, carriage rides, dog sled rides, games, food, exhibitors and more. Saturday 11 am-4 pm -- free

Frost Faire
Saturday: Saratoga National Historical Park hosts its annual Frost Faire at the battlefield. Frost faires were popular in the 1700s. There will be wagon rides, a nature walk, a scavenger hunt, a bonfire, crafts, games and hot cocoa. Sledding if weather permits. Saturday 11 am-3 pm -- free

Maple Sugarhouse Tours
Sunday: Riverside Maple Farms and Wolf Hollow Brewing Company will offer tours to give people a behind the scenes look at home syrup and beer are made. Sunday 10 am-6 pm -- free

Stage

The Illusionists: Live from Broadway
Friday-Saturday: The tour of Broadway's popular magic show, The Illusionists, comes to Proctors this weekend. Friday 8 pm, Saturday 2 pm and 8 pm -- $20-$80

An Inspector Calls
Friday-Sunday: Schenectady Civic Players presents An Inspector Calls, a play about the investigation into a young woman's suicide in 1945. It has elements that are incredibly timely today. Friday and Saturday 8pm, Sunday 2:30 pm -- $20

Paris Time
Friday-Sunday: A new production Paris Time -- "A gripping and sophisticated drama that looks behind the headlines at anti-semitism in today's France." -- is in previews at The Rep. Friday 8 pm, Saturday 2 pm and 8 pm , Sunday 2 pm -- $20 and up

One Night Only: Donna McKechnie
Saturday: Broadway legend and Tony winner Donna McKechnie brings her one-woman cabaret show to the GE Theatre. Saturday 7:30 pm -- $40-$50

Jesus Christ Superstar SOLD OUT
Friday-Sunday: Schenectady Light Opera presents Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock musical about the passion of Christ. Friday and Saturday 8 pm, Sunday 2 pm -- $18-$28

Fit to Kill
Friday-Sunday: Curtain Call Theater presents Fit to Kill, a thriller by Victor Chan. Friday 8 pm, Saturday 2 pm and 8 pm , Sunday 3 pm -- $27.50

Bing Bamboo Room Burlesque
Saturday: Hudson Harbor Steak and Seafood hosts the Bing Bamboo Room Burlesque company's Legends of Hollywood show. Saturday 8 pm -- $15 ahead / $20 at the door

Nick Di Paeola
Friday-Saturday: Nick Di Paeola (Tonight Show, Letterman, Conan) headlines at The Comedy Works in Saratoga this weekend. Friday 7:30 pm, Saturday 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm -- $25 advance / $30 at the door

Pretty Much the Best Comedy

Maestro
Friday: The Mop & Bucket Company's "Maestro" returns. Some of the Capital Region's best improvisers compete in an elimination tournament, creating songs, stories, and scenes based on audience suggestions. Friday 8 pm -- $10 / $6 for students and seniors

TheaterSports
Saturday: The Mop & Bucket Company continues its run of TheaterSports at the MopCo Improv Theater. Teams of improvisors compete by creating games, stories and songs based on audience suggestion. Saturday 8 pm -- $10 / $6 for students and seniors

The nominees have been announced, and many of them are still in local theaters, so it's a great time to catch the ones you missed.

Sunday: Frank Jaklitsch Legacy at Caffe Lena
"Join hosts Good Things (Michael Eck, Bobby Long and Kathi Quinlan) along with Kevin McKrell, Amy Collins and others to remember Frank's amazing sold-out nights at the Caffe and to raise funds for SongwritingWith:Soldiers..." 7 pm -- $18

Skating

Here's a big list of places around the Capital Region to ice skate -- including outdoor rinks such as the ESP, indoor rinks, and even a few frozen ponds.

Museums/galleries

State Museum
The State Museum continues its Votes for Women, about the women's suffrage movement. And the first phase of its new Enterprising Waters: New York's Erie Canal exhibit is open.

Albany Institute
Well-Dressed, an exhibit of high fashion from the 19th century, continues at the Albany Institute of History and Art, along with an exhibit about the the anti-suffrage movement in Albany. Also almost its entire collection of Hudson River School works is on display.

Hyde Collection
The Hyde Collection recently opened Alphonse Mucha: Master of Art Nouveau. And the new Feibes & Schmitt Gallery is also now open.

MASS MoCA
There are a bunch of exhibits on display that make use of its huge gallery expansion.

The Clark
The Clark has a good permanent collection.

Rockwell
The Norman Rockwell Museum is just over the Massachusetts border in Stockbridge.

Baseball Hall of Fame
Baseball fans could probably spend most of the day at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

History of urban development in Schenectady
Saturday: The Schenectady County Historical Society is recently opened a new exhibit, Changing Downtown: The Rise, the Raze, and the Revitalization of Schenectady.

Farmers' markets
+ The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market is indoors at the atrium. Saturday 9 am-2 pm
+ The Saratoga Farmers' Market is indoors at the Lincoln Bathhouse Saturday 9 am-1 pm
+ The Schenectady Greenmarket is indoors at Proctors. Sunday 10 am-2 pm
+ The Spa City Farmers' Market is inside the Lincoln Baths. Sunday 10 am-2 pm.

Troy Makers Market
Saturday: Local craft vendors will display and sell wares at the Troy Makers Market in conjunction with the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. Saturday 9 am to noon

The Albany Institute, Downtown Troy BID, and the Mop & Bucket Company advertise on AOA. And AOA is a sponsor of the ESP ice rink.
