The push for a large aquarium in downtown Albany seems to have crested a few years back, but we still found this City Observatory review of the "promise and perils of city aquariums" interesting. The short version: They're a questionable longterm play and often end up require a very big upfront investment and/or ongoing propping up. (You could probably apply a lot of these lessons to all sorts of similar big projects.) [City Observatory] [via @sandypsj]
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

I was never sure that there was a demand for an aquarium...but Now that Rotterdam has a moderately successful aquarium, there is absolutely no need for another aquarium within 75 miles! :-)
