PinkHouse Pottery
Who: Janine Sullivan
Project: Open a pottery studio with work and teaching space.
My name is Janine Sullivan, and yes I do live in a pink house. I am starting a pottery studio in the basement of my sweet pink Victorian. A bunch of years ago I was born an artist, then got trained to be one, and after that earned a Masters in art education. I love clay, and love teaching people of all ages how to create with clay. Opening this studio will allow me to put my skills to use around the schedule of my family.
Pink House Pottery will be a space for me to create work, teach others to create out of clay, and for other clay artists have work space. Everyone loves the coziness of a handmade mug to drink from. So many people have learning to use the pottery wheel on their bucket list. A few fellow artists have approached me about having access to work space. This studio would also be able to bring clay into schools in conjunction with local classroom and art teachers that may not have access to a kiln. My son's class really enjoyed the clay project I did with them last year.
A larger kiln with computer control and safety shut off, ventilation system, two more pottery wheels, a utility sink, and student tools are some of the items that need to be purchased. This grant would be incredibly helpful in getting Pink House Pottery up and running (or down and running as it will be in the basement!)
