Stuff to do this weekend

lewis blackIn a little over a month someone will ask, "So, what did you do last summer?" What will your answer be?

Here are a few things you could tell them about (including seeing Lewis Black). Of course, first, you'd have to go...

Schenectady Art Night
It's art night in the Electric City. The shops and galleries are open late and there's music from The Refrigerators, performances by Schenectady Light Opera and art by The Schenectady Murals project.

Pig out in Troy
Some of the best barbecue in New York State will be served up in Troy's Riverfront Park this weekend at the Troy Pig Out. They'll have music and barbecue competitions.
Admission is free and samples are $1. Sat: 11 am - 9 pm, Sun: 11am - 5 pm.

Beat the heat
The Peerless pool is finally open in Saratoga's Spa State Park. And if you're looking for someplace else to cool off, check our list of all the pools in the Capital Region.

Hob nob at The Gala
You don't have to be part of the who's who in Saratoga to enjoy the New York City Ballet Gala at SPAC. There's music, dancing and fireworks after the show. Can't make it to The Gala? There's a performance tonight and a matinee Saturday at 2 pm. What's that? You don't know what to wear? No worries.

Sweeney Todd
Sure, you can watch Johnny Depp on DVD, but have you seen the barbers' chair up close? Sondheim's eerie musical about the demon barber of Fleet Street opens this Saturday at the auditorium at Albany Academy.

And they're (almost) off
The Saratoga Racecourse opens its doors on Sunday for its 28th annual open house.
Get a sneak peek at the new restaurants, check out a handicapping clinic, listen to some music, catch a few races (no wagering until next week) and take a free tour of the backstretch. Admission is free but the costs of the carnival booths, food, circus shows and other fun stuff goes to benefit local charities.

Lewis Black at The Palace
Comedy Central's favorite angry man visits Albany's Palace Theater Sunday night. We're just guessing, but he'll probably have a few things to say about Albany and um, spitzering.

Got any other ideas? Share!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
