The Empire Skate Troopers are back!

Resist the urge to hibernate! Yes, it's going to be a grayish weekend, but there's too much to do. Here are a few ideas we've managed to round up for this weekend. If you've got some more-- share!

Scientists, Severe & Margan at Valentines
This may be our pick of the weekend. Valentine's has an awesome line up tonight. $14 dollars seems like a steal for this show.

Roller Derby!
The Empire Skate Troopers take on the Ottowa All Stars on Saturday night at The Washington Avenue Armory. The bout starts at 7. $12, $4 for kids.

Uganda Benefit at Union
Matthew Loiacono is among the acts playing a benefit tonight at Union College in Schenectady. The $5 admission price goes to help buy school supplies for kids in Uganda.

Dance, dance, dance
There are LOTS of opportunities this weekend.
+The Arts Center for the The Capital Region is hosting a A Rock & Roll Dance Party tonight with Rocky Velvet and the Hi-Risers. $15 dollars gets you into this Arts Center benefit. There's beer from Brown's, wine and snacks. Free swing dance lessons at 7:30.
+The Joey Thomas Big Band headlines Saratoga Savoy's monthly dance party at The Saratoga Music Hall (upstairs at city hall). $15 gets you music, dancing, lessons (at 7:30),food (including Ben and Jerry's), a swing performance and DJ's between sets.
+Avrill Park's Crooked Lake House is hosting another Ballroom, Swing, Latin Dance Party. For $10 you can dance all night in their historic ballroom. Lessons start at 7:15

Dizzy with Champagne
Movieland in Schenectady continues their Movie's and Mimosa series on Saturday morning with Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.

Phantom of the Orchestra
The 1925 Lon Chaney Classic, The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by the found percussion and state-of-the-art electronics group, The Alloy Orchestra. Tonight at 7 at
The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy. $10 suggested donation.

Shop! (local)
If you want to get a jump on holiday shopping but you're just not ready to deal with
piped in Christmas tunes and mall decorations, try The Buy Local Bash on Saturday at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy. From 5 to 9 PM local vendors will be selling gifts. There will be samples of local foods and music by Ben Karis-Nix and Ashley Pond.

Pierogies and clothes!
Yup, it's a rummage sale AND a homemade pierogi sale. Bags of frozen homemade pierogi will be available for sale along with ready-to-eat food stuffs. Saturday from 9AM to 2PM at the Blessed Virgin Mary of Czechowa Parish, 250 Maxwell Road, Latham.
