Dinosaur a preview of our barbecue future?

Dinosaur Barbeque Syracuse

The Dino's Syracuse location.

Update: Steve has more details about the event. The short story: it's a benefit for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society-- and turnout may have some bearing on whether the Dinosaur sets up shop in the Capital Region.

__

The Dinosaur BBQ will be serving food in Troy next Tuesday (May 12) in Riverfront Park, according to Troy mayor Harry Tutunjian.

The Dinosaur has reportedly been scouting locations in the Capital Region for some time now. We got a tip from Nancy recently that while eating at the Syracuse location, she'd heard from the restaurant's manager that The Dinosaur was indeed planning to take over the old Fresno's location along the Hudson -- though the opening was still as much as a year out.

We've eaten at the Syracuse Dinosaur many times -- it's seriously good barbecue. We're looking forward to scoring some Dino next week.

Once hopes the strength and size of the Dino can help it to avoid untimely extinction in that location which has vanquished so many before it...

If only I hadn't sold my motorcycle...

This makes this Syracuse gal happy!! Thanks for the info!

In fairness, the location itself was only the death of Castaways. Fresno's failed due to bad food, bad service, and (from what I hear from folks who worked there at various points) bad management combined with the inability to pay off the loan taken out to raise the property to prevent another flooding.

"score some Dino" - I love that line, they should use that in their ads

I paid my first visit to the Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse last month, and I was in "hog/beer/cool hard rock music on the PA" heaven - hearing this may be coming to the area is making me salivate something fierce.

My favorite Troy rumor just won't go away!

!!!!

A reason for me to cross the river!

It's interesting that this news item preceeds the item about the snake (or possible reptile) head found in the TGI Friday's vegetables. The Capital Region is clearly embracing our scaly friends and all they can contribute to our cuisine, and I for one could not be happier.

I've never been to Dinosaur BBQ, but I was wondering, how does it compare to Capital Q? Do they have similar food?

I love Capital Q, so I'd hate to see some big Dino come in and mess it up!

The Fresno's location is such a wasted space being empty. We actually had a gathering at the Fresnos the night before our wedding - an impromptu rehersal dinner type thing. It was awesome being on the big deck and watching the river. There really should be something there and I think Dino's would have a big enough following right off the bat to spark interest in the area as well. Here's hoping it happens!

@Jay Hopefully, Dinosaur BBQ and Capital Q can co-exist peaceably. After a recent (i.e. this past Saturday) examination of food from both locations, I have concluded that Dinosaur BBQ is more saucy and sweet, whereas Capital Q is more fond of vinegar and dry, smoky flavors.

All I know is that asking me to choose between the two of them would be like asking a mother to choose which of her children is more delicious--who can make a choice like that? I need 'em both.

I had almost given up hope. Thank you for restoring it. And I have now cleared my calendar for May 12.

as a native western new yorker who now lives in Troy, I am super excited to see this!
