Stuff to do this weekend

Does sidewalk chalk + rain = that scene with the penguins in Mary Poppins?

Boots? Check. Umbrella? Check. Raincoat? Check.

No, it's not actually time to start pairing up your animals and building an ark, but it's starting to feel like it. Fun fact though -- you can actually have a good time in the rain.

And if there was ever a weekend to test out that theory, this is it. We'll have plenty of rain, and plenty of fun stuff to do.

Here's our weekly weekend roundup of things that looked like fun to us. If you've got something else in mind, be sure to let us know about it.

Art Night
Splash around Schenectady for Art Night. You can catch the trolley between venues. Tonight's schedule includes a Celtic Festival with Irish music, step dancing and a "best knees in a kilt" contest. Also, it occurs to us that we haven't mentioned the chocolate pizza at Aperitivo in a while. We're just sayin'.

River Street Festival
Troy's River Street Festival is scheduled for tomorrow. Sure it may be a little soggy, but Cracker will be there and so will Chris Barron of The Spin Doctors. Plus they'll have all kinds of other music, art, activities for kids workshops and of course the sidewalk painting contest. 9AM -5PM. Free.

See a play
Rainy days are perfect for catching a show. Capital Rep has Shear Madness, a murder/mystery/comedy where the audience pics the ending. Tonight at 8, Saturday at 3 and 7:30 and Sunday at 2:30 $36-$46

Local film premiere
On Saturday night The Saratoga Film Forum will Premiere an award winning, locally produced short film. "Regular Guy", a comedy about love and death, stars a handful of local actors. The artists will be on-hand for a discussion after the film. $5

Make it up as you go
The Wit & Will Theatre have some Father's Day humor planned for Saturday night at ZuZu's Wonderful Life. The show is called "If You're Not Laughing, I'll Turn This Car Around," and it's billed as an evening of improvised comedy, song, dance and poetry. $12, $8 students and seniors.a

Roller Derby
Saturday night the Hellions of Troy take on the Eastern Penn. Long Island Roller Rebels in Troy's Frear Park. Doors open at 6 and the bout starts at 7. $10 in advance; $12 night of.

Bike Polo!
Looks like there's a Bike Polo match and kickoff party on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 near the tennis courts in Washington Park. Bring your bike. They've got mallets. There's a court side BBQ too.

Tour the Adelphi
The Adelphi Hotel is one of our favorite places to have a drink during the summer in Saratoga. This late 19th Century hotel is open for tours on Sunday from 1-4 PM. Historian James Kettelwell will give a talk at 2:30 and answer questions about the building and its history. $5 admission benefits The Preservation Foundation.

Sundae in the Park
Celebrate all things dairy on Sunday at the Koval Brothers' Dairy in Stillwater. The farm is open to the public on Sunday for "Sundae on the Farm." There will be tours, kids activities, food (including sundaes), exhibits and a farmers' market. Here's more info and directions.

Carillon Concert
If you're strolling near City Hall in Albany on Sunday, stop and listen to the music. There's a carillon in the building and you'll be able to hear the free concert in all the nearby neighborhoods.

Make something cool for Dad
Skip the tie this Father's Day and make Dad something more personal. There's all kinds of cool art supplies at The Albany Art Room.
