This is one of those weekends you're going to want to start early. Go ahead. We won't tell.

It's gorgeous out already and there's a ton of good stuff to do.

Here's our list of stuff that looks like fun. Let us know what we missed.

TNO
Tonight will be an absolutely gorgeous Troy Night Out. Take a walk through the Collar City and check out the art and music. Stop by the old Kismet Gallery where three-quarters of the Kismet folks are doing a one-weekend-only show creating art from recycled materials. It's a benefit for Joseph's House & Shelter. The opening is from 5 to 9 tonight, with five hours of music starting at 9 pm. The TNO Official Unofficial After Party starts at Daisy Baker's at 9.

Music
While you're in downtownTroy tonight, drop by Brown's and catch one of Franklin MiCare's sets. Caution: beware of happy feet.

Girl Talk (aka Greg Gillis) will be sampling, smashing and creating new music with old at the East Campus Athletic Village at RPI tonight at 8. Here's an interview with Gillis about what he does. (Heads-up: looks like you have to bring a college I.D. -- not just RPI -- any I.D. will do)

Also tonight in Troy, Eric Margan and The Red Lions are at Revolution Hall with Jason Reeves. Doors at 7. $13

Protest the Hero is upstairs at Valentine's tonight with Architects, the Viking and the Final Sleep. 7PM.

Former Man at Work, Colin Hay does his solo show on Saturday night at 8 at The Egg. Next weekend.

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad brings their mix of dub and roots reggae to Red Square on Saturday night at 8. $10 (21+) / $15 (under 21)

Check out the Disposable Rocket Band with psychofolk band My Survival Kit on Saturday at the Contemporary Arts Center at Woodside in Troy.

The Whigs are upstairs at Valentine's on Saturday night.

The Incredible Casuals are hanging out Downstairs at Valentine's on Saturday. They've been together since 1981, and their music has been described as "The Beach Boys meets The Who." Grainbelt is opening. 9PM.

The Ternrounders are at Bread and Jam in Cohoes on Saturday night at 8.

Railbird and Alta Mira are coming to Putnam Den in Saratoga on Saturday night.

If you're in the mood for a little jazz, Sonny & Perley are at 74 State with Jim Curtin on Saturday night. 8:30.

If you want to experiment a little, Albany Sonic Arts Collective has a show at UAG on Saturday. Ben Miller and Doug Van Nort, Barn Owl and Shape Shifting Shepherds will be there. $5 suggested donation.

Onedotzero_Adventures in Motion
For the second year in a row the Onedotzero digital arts folks bring a three day festival of cutting edge digital screenings and installations to EMPAC with 3D mapping, "live painting," digital shorts and live performances. Tonight's Diplo show is sold out but on Saturday night audio visual artist AntiVJ will wrap up an EMPAC residency in a performance with Sleeparchive, and there's a full day of screenings scheduled both Saturday and Sunday. You can also stop in and check it out tonight as part of Troy Night Out. Things kick off tonight at 8. Installations are free and a three day pass to the digital screenings is $10. *

Zero Film Festival
The Zero Film Festival for indie filmmakers will be screening more than a dozen indie's between noon and 8 PM on Saturday. Some work by local filmakers is on the agenda, including Mike Feurstein's "The Greatest Man Alive," with Kevin Craig West. The screenings are at The Linda. Here's the full schedule.

Theater
Lots of doors and windows, entrances and exits and sardines combine to make "Noises Off" a really funny night of farce. You can catch the show at Home Made Theater

Critical Mass
April's Critical Mass bike ride takes off tonight at eight. The group ride meets at the Soldiers and Sailors memorial near State St. and Henry Johnson Blvd in Washington Park at 5:30 on the last Friday of every month.

Happy Hour for a good cause
If you're looking for a place for happy hour tonight, stop by the Victory Cafe for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Happy Hour Fundraiser. $20 gets you food, drink specials, prizes and it's all for a really good cause.

Comedy
Mop & Bucket is making up a bunch of funny stuff in their new home, downstairs at Proctor's tonight at 8.

The Nobodies of Comedy tour comes to Proctor's tomorrow night at 8.

Book Signing
One of our favorite local authors and maybe one of our favorite people -- Marion Roach Smith will be at Market Block Books in Troy tomorrow morning at 11. to discus her new book, "Writing What you Know: Realia."

Dance

The Underground Ballroom is holding a dance group for new and experienced dancers on Saturday night from 8 to 10 at The Fuze Box. There's a beginner's lesson at 7:40. $2.

Sunday is India Day at The National Museum of Dance. It's the first in a series of "International Days" at the museum. They'll be Indian food, music, Bollywood dance demonstrations and sari wrapping demonstrations. $5. Children and members are free.

EBA pays tribute to Isadora Duncan with a concert performance of her work tonight at 7.

Sheep to shawl
The Brookside museum in Ballston Spa is holding a Sheep to Shawl day. They'll be shearing sheep, spinning yarn, weaving cloth and crafts. Noon to 3. $2 per person, $5 per family.

Shaker Historic Site
If you're thinking of checking out Shaker Historic Site, Saturday they're holding a pottery fest from 10 a.m.-4 p.m..

Take a historical tour of Albany's Center Square on Sunday afternoon with social historian and Urban Design Professor John Pipkin. Meet up at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in Washington Park at noon.

Ice Cream
It's outdoor ice cream season. Pick someplace fun from the AOA ice cream tour or find a favorite of your own.

Al fresco
Patios are opening all over the Capital Region. Check out the AOAoutdoor dining guide.

Take a walk
There's a natural history walk at the Saratoga National Historical Park on Saturday morning at 10, but if you can't make that, pick your favorite place. You can walk for a cause on Sunday at the Saratoga Racecourse -- they're hosting the walk to fight M.S.. There's no minimum registration fee, just give what you can.

Farmers' Markets
Markets in Schenectady, Troy and Saratoga move outdoors this weekend. Shop for local Seasonal food in the sunshine. On Sunday check out the Capital District Local first Buy Local Bash around the corner from the Schenectady Greenmarket, at Proctor's. *

The Rhinebeck Car Show at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds is this Saturday and Sunday. They'll have about 2,000 hot rods, customs, and classic cars. Info and directions at rhinebeckcarshow.com

Heads-up on the Girl Talk show: It sold out weeks ago, and yes, college IDs will be checked at the door. (I think it has something to do with the booking rates.) Also, soft-soled shoes only so nobody marks up the new multi-million-dollar gym floor.

Also, the Old Stone Fort and Battle Site in Schoharie opens this weekend.
In fact, tomorrow I may do some of the stuff on AOA's 12 Hours in Schoharie County posting from last summer, particularly the fort, Rubbin Butts BBQ, and Mine Kill State Park.

There is a contra dance at the Hibernian Hall in Albany tonight - live music from a great local band from Columbia County, the Russet Trio. Dance is 8-11, all dances taught in advance, very social and easy - if you can walk, you can contra dance (and burn over 1000 calories in a 3 hour period!). No experience or partner necessary. Also - the Shaker pottery fest is both Saturday and Sunday as far as I know!

Ten historic houses on Troy's East Side designed by architect Stanton P. Lee will be open for a house tour on Saturday, May 1 from 1:30-4pm. $15/person - tickets and maps can be purchased at the Rensselaer County Historical Society, 57 Second Street, Troy. If you have a place in your heart for craft beers, stop by Savannah's tonight for happy hour and try out free samples of Ommegang's Rare Vos. A raffle will be held benefiting the bar's choice of non-profit, and winners will receive anything from a spiffy Ommegang tshirt to a nice pint glass!

Sweet Buns Cafe at the Albany Free School (8 Elm St. in the Mansion neighborhood) is nice little cafe open on the first Saturday of every month from 8:30-11:30am. Their baked goods, breakfast sandwiches and specials are always amazing. Great prices too!
