Editors: just a heads-up, that's next Saturday June 12. We're excited for the World Cup, too.

Here's an interesting link from someone who came through (and stayed) in Albany recently.

http://emeralddreamsphoto.wordpress.com/2010/06/03/a-dead-city/

They guy's got a point.

@patrick: what would that point be? Some pretty cool photos here (of the Education building especially), but really, he was definitely not where "it's at". There is some action downtown (Broadway/Pearl), but that's much later in the day. And he seems to have carefully avoided Center Square; people hardly hang out near the plaza or government buildings during the weekend, especially at night. If I visit a new city, I usually do a bit of homework :)

Agreed; it's no surprise that the government office building area is going to be deserted on the weekend. If you want to see things happening, even in that same area, check it out any weekday between 11am-1pm or after work hours on an Alive @ 5 day. He also would have seen plenty of people in the Plaza/Museum area this Saturday, with the Freihofer's Run. I walked past that this weekend after watching my girlfriend play football in Lincoln Park for a while, then returned to Lincoln to see a couple of football games, a softball game, and some cricket in progress.

Of course, Center Square is much more vibrant at night than downtown proper, and this past Friday would have been a good time since it was a 1st Friday.

That guy will be getting referral links to this post, so hopefully he'll read it and see why he missed the action. I appreciate that he tried to visit Albany and check it out, but just because everything didn't come to where he was doesn't mean it's a zombie town. Patrick, I'm also curious what you think the point was.

Or, you know, you can just leave a comment on his blog :) I did, he answered, no harm done. I like his cross-process and flare photos, gave me some ideas.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
