All Good Bakers moving

All Good Bakers announced yesterday that it's moving from its first storefront on Quail Street in Albany to a bakery space on Delaware Ave (or, the DelSo, as you also like to call it).

Write owners Britin and Nick Foster over on their blog:

[The spot] that has been calling our names for years, 540 Delware Avenue, was vacant, and offered a multitude of improvements: Three times the square footage, 10 parking spaces, a slightly larger retail area, reasonable rent, fully-installed fire-suppression system (with fans and hood - a huge expense!), better quality finishes, on a main thoroughfare, accessible to our Delmar customers (but still in Albany) and we could walk to work in good weather! ... We've lived in the DelSo neighborhood since moving here in 2003 - having our bakery here will be an absolute dream come true for us. We'll start acquiring equipment and navigating the city permitting process next week. We're hoping to open sometime between mid-February and mid-March, and will operate on Quail St. until then.

The space is the strip of storefronts next to the recently opened Mingle. The last tenant in the space was also a bakery, called In the Mix.

AGB says they were able to make the move thanks in part to financing from the Community Loan Fund of the Capital Region.

We can only hope they're taking the toast with them.

Ah, every time a bakery in that spot closed I'd cry a little. This is great news for Nick & Britin and for the neighborhood, though it might be that Quail needs this sort of outlet more than we do.

Ahhh, closer to my neighborhood. Very good, very good.

I had hopes their presence on Quail might help to improve that neighborhood, but I completely understand why they'd want to make this move. Hope they do well in the new location.

Awww. Thanks for the DelSo love!

guess all the talk about "the neighborhood" on quail was them convincing themselves they liked it, which they apparently didnt. so it goes.

Thanks for the welcome love! We are excited for so many reasons - not the least of which is that (as stated above) we'll be working in the neighborhood where we live.

@Andrew, there are many aspects of the Pine Hills neighborhood that we do like (very friendly and helpful other biz owners, enthusiastic residents who visit the shop, sentimental feelings for the shop itself, our landlord) but the problems on Quail St. are insurmountable by us alone and we have reluctantly accepted that our current location just doesn't fit what we have evolved into. I wrote a blog post about all of the reasons we decided to move (http://www.allgoodbakers.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-beginnings.html). We feel this is a step in a positive direction that will help our bakery and our family thrive.

Oh, and as long as Steve Kroeger (the local artist who created the toast) will move it, we have got a prime spot for it at the new bakery!

In the Mix came after Able Bakers? I guess I must have blinked and missed them.

Regardless, I wish Nick and Britin all the best in their new location. I'm most excited about the expanded hours and the promise of additional seating. I know their former neighbors will miss them, but they are moving to a better place.

Congratulations.

I'm really excited about the move to Delaware - the only time I've been fortunate enough to have some of Nick's great bread was at the Harvest Fest at Washington Park - the hours of the store just don't match my schedule. Hopefully I'll be able to buy some really good bread on a regular basis!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
