Farmers' markets are back outside
The outdoor season for local farmers' markets begins this weekend: Troy (Saturday), Saratoga (Saturday), and Schenectady (Sunday) are all back outside.

1st Friday
Tonight is 1st Friday in Albany. Art, music and performance at venues all around Albany. Here's the full schedule.

Post-1st Friday events include:

MopCo.
MopCo.: You never know. The Mop and Bucket improv company has a new show Underground at Proctors. It's a mix of short-form scenes and improv games, and it's different every week. Friday at 8 pm - $14, $6

Phil Selman/Kevin Marshall
Veteran comic Phil Selman headlines this week's Comic Syndrome show on Saturday night at Savannah's in Albany. Local favorite Kevin Marshall will also do a set. $15 for the show and $25 for the show plus a three-course meal and preferred VIP seating. Doors open at 6:30, show at 7:30.

God of Carnage
The regional premiere of Yasmina Reza's comedy God of Carnage< is a Capital Rep this weekend. Tonight at 8 pm, Saturday at 3 pm and 8 pm, Sunday 2 pm - $20 - $60

Hair
Cohoes Music Hall presents the rock musical Hair. Friday at 8PM, Saturday 3PM & 8PM, Sunday 3PM - $26-$36

The Real Thing
Schenectady Civic opens its production of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing.Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2:30 pm.

The Farnsworth Invention
Aaron Sorkin's play about the invention of television, The Fansworth Invention, opens this weekend at Albany Civic Theater.

Friday at UAlbany: Multi-media artist Brian Dewan's hand drawn and soundtracked filmstrips are created to sound like old-school educational filmstrips. The show starts at 7 pm in Lecture Center 6 on the uptown UAlbany campus - free

Vanguard designer showhouse
This weekend you can check out the annual Vanguard Designer show house at the condos at 17 Chapel in Albany. This year's "house" is three beautifully decorated condos. $18 admission supports the Albany Symphony - free parking is available

CDCG 25th Annual Spring Brunch
Sunday at HVCC, sample homemade and professional culinary creations from 100 local food and beverage purveyors at Capital District Community Gardens' annual brunch. Music, an auction, children's activities and more. Proceeds benefit the Capital District Community Gardens and the Veggie Mobile. $25 in advance, $30 at the door, kids under 10 Free.

Flaherty On the Road Film Fest
The road component of the Flaherty Documentary Film Festival comes to The Sanctuary for Independent Media on Saturday night. They're screening two programs combining long-form and short form pieces. Here's more about the programs.

New York's extinct parrot
State Museum curator of birds Jeremy Kirchman will be giving a talk Saturday at the museum about the extinct Carolina Parakeet, the only parrot species native to the eastern United States. 1 pm - free

Bike Expo
Bike shops, rides, food, craft vendors, bike techs with advice, raffles and more at the 2nd Annual Bike Expo in Washington Park on Sunday. 10-4 - free

Sushi hands on
Ace sushi chef Yasuo Saso and his wife Kathy Saso (formerly of Saso's) are teaching a how-to class on sushi at Different Drummer's Kitchen at Stuyvesant Plaza on Saturday. California roll, cucumber roll, smoked salmon and asparagus roll, make-your-own sushi roll. 3 pm - $65

Final Cut Class
Talented local filmmakers Roman Jacquez and Kevin Craig West are teaching a day-long intensive how to use Final Cut Pro X Saturday at the Arts Center of the Capital Region. 9 am-5 pm - $155

Baby Animal Days at Indian Ladder Farms
Visit, pet and learn about the baby animals at Indian Ladder. Saturday and Sunday from 9-5. $5 per child. No charge for accompanying adult.

Saratoga Springs Horse Show
This is the first weekend of the Saratoga Springs Horse Show (formerly the St. Clements Horse Show). 8AM at the Saratoga Racecourse and Yaddo.Events are from 8-5 today through Sunday - $3 per person / under 12 free.

Circus
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town this weekend at the TU Center Friday at 7 pm, Saturday at 3 pm and 7 pm, Sunday 1 pm and 5 pm - tickets start at $14

Albany 1812: Albany History Fair
Sunday at Historic Cherry Hill: The 13th Annual Albany Historic Fair marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Period music, historic exhibits and children's activities at Historic Cherry Hill. Noon-4 pm - free

Derby Day
Saturday is the Kentucky Derby. If you're not much for the races you can use it as an excuse for a mint julep.

Kurver Kreme, The Snowman,Jack's Drive In in Wynantskill, and Jumpin' Jack's and lots of other seasonal joints are now open. Go to it!

Brunch
It's one of the best ways to spend a lazy weekend morning. Here are a few fun brunch options and some great diner breakfast stops.

Community Garage Sale at the Capital District Farmer's Market in Menands. May 5th from 9am to 1pm. I'm not running it or anything, but will be selling stuff there. :) Come see what treasures your neighbors have!
