Holiday wish list: Deanna Fox

Holiday gift list Deanna Fox.jpg

The holiday season is a time for making wish lists, and shopping lists. In an effort to help you with both, we're asking a handful of folks what's on their local holiday wish list this year.

Today's list comes from Deanna Fox, owner of Local Flavor and writer for Silly Goose Farm, the TU's Eat Local and From Scratch Club.

I'm a pretty easy-going girl when it comes to gifts. I don't expect much and I'm always touched when someone thinks of me by way of presents. But when I'm asked to create a wish list, suddenly I'm like, "I WANT ALL THE THINGS!"

Like many of you, I would be tickled to receive movie passes, or booze, or books, but there are a few specific items I am especially pining for this holiday season.

A make out session with Ric Orlando
OK, this one may be a problem for Mrs. Orlando -- so I'll settle for his cooking. A gift certificate to New World Bistro Bar will do fine.

Something pretty from Madame Pirie Famise Corset and Lingerie Shop
Most days, I dress like a lumberjack. So when slumber calls, it is nice to have something feminine to slip into, even if the sheets are plaid flannel.

A roll of quarters for the jukebox at Tin and Lint
If it doesn't take quarters anymore, then bills would also be acceptable. There's nothing like a night out with the girls -- and hijacking the jukebox at the Tin and Lint in Saratoga and playing non-stop Motown, funk, and classic rock.

Dinner and a night's sleep at The American Hotel
I love the history of Sharon Springs, and how the town is experiencing revitalization. Maybe I'll hob-nob with celebrities while I'm there.

A gift certificate to D. Landreth Seed Company
It would be great to get a jumpstart on my garden for the 2013 growing season. Because growing your own food is patriotic, and healthy, and stuff.

Membership to Olana
I geek out on history and architecture. This is the perfect marriage of the two. Sitting high above the Hudson, this grand dame of craftsmanship and meticulous detail is a great place to take an art class or learn some gardening tips.

A monogrammed leather guitar strap or a banjolele from Parkway Music
I'm a sucker for anything bespoke, and I would really like an upgrade from my beat-up nylon guitar strap. And a banjolele is not only awesome to say, it would round out my collection of stringed instruments quite nicely.

Cheese from The Cheese Traveler
Just go talk to Eric, the proprietor of The Cheese Traveler. He knows what I like. And if you are getting me some food, I would really love a box of éclairs and those Napoleon-thingies from Civitello's in Schenectady.

Bonus dream gift:

A Woodwind (or similar Schooner) from Scarano Boat Building
I mean, you've got a couple (dozen) grand to drop on me, right? Riiiight! Some gals get riled-up about shoes... I dream of sailboats.
