A look around Bard & Baker, the new board game cafe in downtown Troy

Bard and Baker The News Troy

The board game cafe Bard & Baker is now officially open in Troy. It's in the street-level retail space at the corner of Broadway and 5th Ave in The News, the redeveloped old Troy Record building.

The cafe has more than 400 games board games that you can play all day for as long as you like for a $5 cover. (You can even leave and come back the same day.) There's also a menu that includes all sorts of beverages (coffee, teas, soda, juice, beer, wine, cocktails), along with sandwiches, snacks, and pastries.

Here's a look around the new place...

Backstory

The cafe's owner is Charlotte Guyton, who was a key member of the team at Clark House Hospitality (Peck's Arcade, The Confectionery). And Bryan Connor, who was a pastry chef at Peck's Arcade, is the cafe's kitchen manager.

Guyton first publicly announced the plan for the cafe during last year's AOA Startup Grant contest, in which she was a finalist. Even though she didn't win, the judges were very impressed. And Guyton got a boost earlier this year when she won the business plan competition for the Capital Region Chamber's Entrepreneur Boot Camp.

We talked with her this past summer about how things were coming along for Bard & Baker.

Hours

Tuesday-Thursday: 9 am to 10 pm
Friday: 9 am to midnight
Saturday: 10 am to midnight
Sunday: 10 am to 6 pm
Closed Monday

Charlotte Guyton said they're also planning start brunch in a few months.

What a fabulous concept and no doubt a welcome addition to the exciting Troy downtown scene.

Bard & baker, dove& deer, and Lark st Yoga. Women business owners in Albany are kicking serious ass this Fall.

Games to play with people you talk to in the same room and great food and drink - what a fabulous concept!

I just learned about the Woman's Club of Albany yesterday, during the Holiday House tour. It's a really large space that is chock full of character, and they rent it out for parties of the type Maureen is interested in.
