Stuff to do this weekend

Ode Ober

A still from Ode Ober, one of the short films being shows this weekend in Hudson.

It's the end of a gorgeous week... and the beginning of a tropical storm.

Don't let a little rain stop you. There's plenty to do this weekend. Here's our list. Let us know if you have something to add.

Night Out
Yeah, doesn't seem possible, but it's Troy Night Out again. So put on your boots of Chinese plastic, take along an umbrella made of... umbrella stuff and stroll the Collar City in the rain. Or skip it and just hit up the Official Unofficial After Party at Revolution Hall. Mattie Safer of The Rapture DJs will be there with McGuillicuddy, thepelham123, back from japan and jenks.

Everybody Dance
The Crooked Lake House is hosting another Ballroom/Swing/Latin Dance Party. There's a free lesson tonight at 7:15. Then you can dance until 10:30 for $10.

New Orleans Jazz
New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band teams up with The Blind Boys of Alabama for a night of jazz and gospel at Proctors. Tonight at 8.

Hudson Film Fest
The Manhattan Short Film Festival continues tonight and tomorrow in Hudson.

Cuban Cinema
The New York State Writer's Institute film series is back. Tonight they're showing a feature by Cuba's leading director, Fernando Perez. Madrigal is a love story about a struggling screenwriter who seduces an "ugly duckling" on a dare.

Make it up
Mop and Bucket has another whole weekend of Spontaneous Broadway planned at
Proctor's (upstairs at 440). Go next door for a chocolate pizza when it's over.

Trojan Idol
Think American Idol, unplugged and in Troy. Acoustic artists from around the Capital Region will compete in the 1st Annual Uncle Sam Open Mike Acoustic Championship from noon-4 PM on Saturday. It'll be held at its rain location in front of
Troy's Eiffel Tower aka City Hall. If you want to sing, you can sign up at 11. The entry free is a non-perishable food item or the cash equivalent (it's a benefit for the Northeast Regional Food Bank).

Mercury Landing at Red Square
No, it's not a cold war era sci-fi flick. The NYC based Mercury Landing brings their combination of funk, ska, disco, regge and lots of other stuff to Red Square Saturday night. Be sure to ask for the theme from Sonic the Hedgehog.

Cool old stuff
If antiques are your thing, this show is pretty cool. Fifty vendors indoors and outdoors on Sunday from 9 to 4 at Lakeside Farms. Don't forget to stop for a BLT and cider donuts.

Him Talk Pretty
David Sedaris reads at The Palace Theater in Albany on Sunday night at 8. We've seen him before and it's fun. But unless you're a big fan, the $38.50 for a ticket might be a little steep.

Fingerpaint
Looks like this would be a great weekend to checkout the Albany Art Room.

The Stockade Walkabout is scheduled for this Friday, but I'm not sure if they cancel because of rain ?

Kim: the walkabout is definitely scheduled for tomorrow Saturday; I know, I have two tickets. And it's rain or shine, no refund, etc.

I'd also like to mention that this weekends meeting of procrastinators anonymous has been postponed. Again.

I've been looking forward to the Rapture DJs for months. I love the Rapture- I don't care if it's half of the group and that I will be half asleep at the show. I am ready to DANCE!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
