Stuff to do: Go rainbow hunting

No. Really? Again with the rain on the weekend? OK, you know what? We don't care anymore. No, we don't.

Rain all you want. We're not paying attention. La la la la la! We're going to have fun anyway. Huh.

So, rainy or not, here's a list of stuff to do this weekend that looked like fun to us. If we missed any of the good stuff, let us know.

1st Friday
Looks like things will be dry for 1st Friday in Albany tonight. Here's the schedule. Don't miss the post-1st Friday events. Sonny and Perley are playing the Capital Swing Dance at 25 North Allen Street. 7:30-11:30. $15 The Fuze Box hosts DJ Modern Primitive Disco, Hip Hop and more at 10. Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers are playing Tess' Lark Tavern at 10. $5.

Meet the Beatles
Well, sort of. This Lennon and McCartney tribute band plays Revolution Hall tonight at 10 $10.

One night. Only. OK, one more.
Five years ago a band called Pumped for Dumplin' (which included the fabulous Katie Haverly), played its one night only engagement at Valentine's. Tonight they're making a second appearance there. Also appearing-- the Restys and The Mission Control. $5

Film Fest
The Ballston Spa Film Festival is already underway. Films are slated to start at 7 and 9 tonight and Saturday in Wiswall Park. Oh, and it's all Free!

Philadelphia Orchestra
Check the weather before deciding if you'll sit inside or on the lawn for the Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC this weekend. Tonight is film music night with music from Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Casablanca and more. There's free Stewart's ice cream while it lasts and a magic show, games and chalk drawing contests before the show. On Saturday violinist Joshua Bell is the featured artist. $18, $31-$72.50. Performances begin at 8.

Catch a show
There's all kinds of summer theater in the area right now. Here area a few of the shows that looked interesting to us:

The Classic Theater Guild is performing Shakespeare's comedy "Much Ado About Nothing" at Indian Ladder Farms tonight at Saturday at 8 and Sunday 2. The show is Free but you have to bring your own chairs.

Shear Madness
is at Capital Rep for a few more weekends. It's a mystery/comedy where the audience decides "who done it." You can see it tonight at 8, Sat at 3 PM and 7:30 and Sun at 2:30 $36-46.

Day tripping
Spend 12 hours in Bennington Vermont or Schoharie County.

Strange Films For Curious People
The Strange Films for Curious People series at Proctor's continues on Saturday night with Hedwig and the Angry Inch. 7PM $8

Polo
You can check out the polo matches at Saratoga Polo on Friday and Sunday night ( also every Wednesday.) Matches start at 5:30. Clubhouse admission is $25 per person, but general admission is $25 a carload. Hmmm how many people can we get into the AOA Mini Cooper? If you want to go but you're not sure how to dress, check here.

Take a hike
There are tons of places to go hiking in the Capital Region. The Indian Ladder trail has some great views, and it's not too taxing. Here's one that's fun and not too taxing.

Tour Hudson
Take a walking tour of Hudson. One hour tours leave at 2PM every Saturday and Sunday from the bottom of Warren Street. You'll need some sustenance, so stop by Swoon for a duck confit panino or have some flan at Mexican Radio.

Breakfast at the Track
The Saratoga Racecourse is at its most beautiful in the early morning when the thoroughbreds are working out. You can enjoy breakfast in the clubhouse or bring a pastry and coffee, sit in the box seats and watch the workouts for free. There's also a free tour of the backstretch that meets at the clubhouse entrance. If you want to park it will cost you ten dollars, but if you leave before 10AM, you can get that back.

Swim while you can
Maybe if you get out there at the right time you can beat mother nature to the punch. The pools are still open in Albany and Saratoga

Ice Cream
You don't need a reason. Here are a few of our favorite places. Or, you know, pick one you like.

Matt Nathanson (!!) opening for O.A.R. at SPAC on Sunday!

Rain or not...this is the best list of stuff to do that I've seen in awhile. How will I ever choose where I want to go and what I want to do!?

Hellions of Troy Roller Derby will be appearing at the Strange Films For Curious People series this Saturday, doing a small demo in between movies. Last time, we took on Proctors Art Director Richard Lovrich, who would only confront us after wrapping himself in about 37 inches of padding. I'm sure even more hilarity will ensue this time.

Could be wrong but this month's First Friday at Tess' Lark Tavern is featuring Love for the Masses and Jared Funari. Support the Albany Barn and enjoy some great music! If you havent seen them before - LFTM features female fronted Electo Pop fresh sounds and Funari is very talented artist known for his original "live" creations through use of a loop station.

El Duke and Tom McWatters will be at Bread and Jam Cafe in Cohoes Saturday night. It's totally free and El Duke demos will be on sale for $1. I'm sure Tom will have some copies of his recent release, 'atomicwaters', too.

Pick blueberries AND see Shakespeare!

Take a trip to Salem, NY .. and catch the show at the Fort Salem Theater - THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG .. and if you go to the matinee on Sunday . .be sure to stop at Sheldon Farms for fabulous produce and goods ..

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
