Risk!
Think The Moth, but a little more down and dirty. Risk! is real people telling "real stories that they never thought they'd dare to share in public." Saturday night at The Linda. 7:30 pm - tickets are $17

Troy Night Out
It's the last Friday of the month, so it's Troy Night Out. On the list of things you can check out:
+ Light7 (272 River St.): grad students from RPI's Lighting Research center share the art and science of light.
+ Village Stage performs Instant Harmony.
+ We Are Architects and the Arts Center of the Capital Region celebrate the opening of Level, a new exhibition of recent independent video games that explore human lifestyles and behavior. Game cabinets are designed and fabricated by We Are Architects with assistance from regional game enthusiasts and friends.
The TNO after-party starts at 9 pm at Daisy Baker's.

Roller Derby
The Hellions of Troy host a rematch against the Providence Roller Derby's Killah Bees on Saturday night at Rollarama in Schenectady. Halftime show by Nanny's Double Dutch. Doors open at 7pm, whistle at 8pm. $10 advance, $12 door, $3 for kids.

Stickball
Troy's Stick it to Hunger stickball tournament is this weekend in the Little Italy Marketplace. The weekend-long tournament raises money and non-perishable food items for the Rensselaer County food pantries.

Gamefest
RPI's Game Simulation Arts and Sciences program hosts its annual Gamefest this weekend. Student created games will be exhibited and a panel of judges from Vicarious Visions will award prizes. There will also be a keynote address and panel discussion. Saturday 10AM- 5:30PM

Albany Children's Book Festival
Wicked author Gregory Maguire is the keynote speaker at this year's Albany Children's Book Festival at the Albany Academies. The festival itself is free, but McGuire's keynote address at 9 am is $10. The Music Mobile will be there along with jugglers and and a storybook parade. Saturday 10 am-4 pm

Vox Lumiere
Friday at Proctors: Vox Lumiere's live action/silent film mashup of Metropolis. A "rock concert meets silent film." 8 pm - $20 and up

We Have An Anchor
Friday at EMPAC: We Have An Anchor by Jem Cohen. "[A] documentary-based, interdisciplinary hybrid built from footage he gathered in Nova Scotia over the past decade, coupled with live music and texts ranging from poems and folklore to mundane local newspaper fragments to scientific research." 8 pm - $18

Film

QFest
QFest goes on all weekend at Proctors and features documentaries, feature films, and new indie flicks. The films were selected to entertain and "offer insight into a range of issues, including homosexuality in the Islamic community, LGBT youth homelessness, and new school initiatives aimed at decreasing bullying." A pass to see all the films is $30.

Some Like it Hot is screening tonight as part of the festival. $8 (QFest Pass $30)

+ The NYS Writer's Institute screens the 1920's Swedish silent Erotikon on Friday night at Page Hall. 7:30 pm - free

+ The London National Theater Live production of the Oliver Goldsmith comedy She Stoops to Conquer will be screened at The Spectrum on Sunday at noon. $15, $12 for kids.

Laughs

MopCo.
MopCo.: You never know. The Mop and Bucket improv company has a new show Underground at Proctors. It's a mix of short-form scenes and improv games, and it's different every week. Friday at 8 pm - $14, $6

Comedy Gold Showcase 2
Kevin Marshall joins a mix of local and NYC based stand-up comedians at The Mine in Saratoga.Friday at 8 pm.

God of Carnage
The regional premiere of Yasmina Reza's comedy God of Carnage officially opens at Capital Rep on May 1, but the show is in previews this weekend. Tonight at 8 pm, Saturday at 3 pm and 8p m, Sunday 2 pm / $20 - $60

Saratoga National Expo and Car Show
Folks who restore and modify cars, trucks and motorcycles will show off their work at the at the Saratoga Nationals Expo and Car Show this weekend at Saratoga County Fairground . There's a different show each day. Saturday and Sunday 10AM to 5PM.$5.00 for spectators, $10 to register a car.

Music

The Fun. show at Northern Lights on Friday is sold out (and has been for a long time). Yep, a lot of people really like that song.

What it sounds like: a bunch of DJs (more than 10) and a bunch of people (a couple thousand) wearing masks. 8 pm - $15

Saturday: Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band at Washington Ave Armory
Yep, that Gary Sinise. It's a fundraiser for a wounded veteran who lives in Rensselaer County. 7 pm - $30 and $50

Indie rock from Tennessee. 7 pm

Sunday: Borromeo String Quartet at the Massry Center
Renowned. 3 pm - $35

TAP New York Craft Beer & Fine Food Festival
This might be a good weekend for a drive to the Hunter Mountain Ski Resort to checkout the TAP New York Craft Beer & Fine Food Festival. With 50 breweries and over 200 beers to sample, it's New York's largest beer and food festival. Noon to 5 on Saturday and Sunday $52-$68. $20 Designated Driver tickets.

Tour Proctors
Proctors is offering a free tour of the historic vaudeville house on Saturday morning at 10. You'll get a look at the theater, the backstage are, dressing rooms, a concert on Goldie, the mighty Wurlitzer, and more. 10AM Free.

The Golden Hour
Alejandro Borsani's thesis show at RPI's West Hall tonight is a light installation that uses real time live video from webcams around the world, extracting color and information during the "golden hour" -- the last and first hours of sunlight in a day. Friday 5PM-9PM, Free.

Saratoga National Historical Park
Saturday is Free Entrance Day at Saratoga National Historical Park, and the weather should be great for hiking. 8 am to dusk

Baby animals - last weekend
This is the last weekend to see the baby animals at Hancock Shaker Villiage. What's it like? Check out Dawn's visit from a few years ago. Tours daily from 10 am-4 pm

Ice cream
Kurver Kreme, The Snowman,Jack's Drive In in Wynantskill, and Jumpin' Jack's and lots of other seasonal joints are now open. Go to it!

Farmers' markets
Winter farmers' markets are open this weekend: Saturday in Troy and Saratoga, and Sunday in Schenectady.

There's a special Front Parlor Storytelling Series event at The Daily Grind on 3rd St. in celebration of Troy Night out from 9-11 tonight. Theme is "caffeinated!" Come and tell a story or just listen.
