Swim
Pools and beaches are open and it's going to be hot. Here's a list of places to cool off in the water.

Groundbreaking
The Albany Barn and the Chefs Consortium are hosting Groundbreaking, a "culinary and visual happening," tonight at The Albany Barn's Stage One at 46 N. Swan Street. The event features the art from the "Lost and Found" photo exhibit and food from consortium chefs, including Chopped champ Ric Orlando, and wine and beer from Harmony House Marketplace and Chatham Brewing. Friday 5-9 pm - $25

Punk marching band

Friday: The 19-piece punk marching band What Cheer? Brigade will be playing a guerilla-style show under the Hoosick Street overpass in Troy Friday night. After the show, the band will march to a dance party. 9:30 pm - $5 donation encouraged

Friday: The Blisterz at Albany Public Library
The Mysteios join the Blisterz for the first APL Garage Bands in the Garage show of the season. In the garage behind the Albany Public Library's main branch on Washington Avenue. 6 pm - free

Friday: Matthew Sweet at The Egg
Power pop extraordinaire. Playing the album Girlfriend in its entirety. 8 pm - $28

Friday: Fuel at Upstate Concert Hall
90s night continues. 7 pm - $15 ahead / $17 day of

Saturday: Diana Krall at Tanglewood
She'll be at the Saratoga Jazz Fest later this summer, too. 7 pm - $24 and up

Saturday: Red Square Carnival Show
Lucky Jukebox Brigade, Skeletons in the Piano, Charmed and Dangerous Burlesque, fire spinning, fortune telling. 8 pm - $7

Saturday: The McKrells at Caffe Lena
Celtic cowboy. 8 pm - $15 ahead / $17 at door

Old Songs Festival
Old Songs hosts its 32nd annual festival this weekend at the Altamont Fairgrounds. Traditional, celtic, Canadian, world music and more. Friday - Sunday. Tickets range from $25 - $125 and are available at the gate.

One Man, Two Guvnors
Richard Bean's take on Servant of Two Masters, One Man, Two Guvnors was nominated for seven Tony Awards and actor James Corden won for best actor. Corden stars in the London National Theater production, being screened at The Spectrum this weekend. Sunday at noon. $15, under 12 $12.

MopCo. You Never Know
The Mop and Bucket Company is making things up tonight underground at Proctors. MopCo.'s weekly improv show is based on audience suggestions, so it's a different show every week. Friday 8 pm - $14, $6 for students and seniors.

Documentary

Pink Ribbons, Inc.
Friday and Saturday: Proctors is showing Pink Ribbons, Inc., a documentary about the co-option of breast cancer for marketing purposes. From the doc's site: "In showing the real story of breast cancer and the lives of those who fight it, Pink Ribbons, Inc. reveals the co-opting of what marketing experts have labeled a 'dream cause.'" Reviews: NYT | Washington Post | NPR. multiple times - $5

Brunswick
The Sand Lake Center for the Arts is screening Brunswick, Nate Simms' documentary about the tension between farming and development in Rensselaer County. Soundtrack composed and performed by Matthew Carefully. Friday at 7 pm - $5

Pipe Down
Capital Rep is screening the locally produced indie slapstick film Pipe Down tonight. "Filmmaker/director Zach Rosenau describes the show as "a comic yarn that follows Tip and Hurl, two snow-shovelers in Skunnahaftaby, NY, whose lazy spring day quickly becomes entangled in the town's political underworld of hired-plumbing, where an incompetent ruffian is pitted against an indignant Pollyanna." It's screened like an old two-reeler with two 12 minute segments. Tonight at 6:30 pm - free

Summer Movies
Movie theaters have air conditioning and popcorn. And summer blockbuster season is well underway. Or see a movie al fresco at the Malta, Hollywood, or Jericho drive-ins.

Ice Cream
The results of Daniel B's Tour de Hard Cream are in. Now you can try the winners out for yourself. Or check out one of these stops on the AOA Ice Cream Tour.

Farmers' markets outside
The outdoor seasons for farmers' markets are in swing in Troy (Saturday), Delmar (Saturday), Saratoga (Saturday), and Schenectady (Sunday).

Troy Flea
Troy Flea, a new TightKnit Saturday market that includes "handmade, vintage and antique art and goods," has opened for the season. It's on the block of River Street in Troy south of the farmers' market, from 9 am-2 pm.

Round Lake Antiques
Around 250 antique dealers will gather on the parks and greens of the village of Round Lake. Even if you're not big on antiques, you might want to wander around and check out the old Victorian-style cottages in the old Methodist meeting camp and the pipe organ in the auditorium. Saturday and Sunday, 9 am-5 pm - free

Museums

The Clark's Family Day
The Clark hosts a Chinese Street Festival with music, folk dancing and a dragon parade, in connection with its new Unearthed exhibit. Sunday 11 am

MASS MoCA
MASS MoCA's Oh, Canada show opened recently and highlights some lesser-known works of art from our neighbors to the north.

Wooden shoes
The new Sculpture in the Streets exhibit is made up of giant wooden shoes. Take a walk around downtown Albany and check them out.

Prevention, Pride and Pancakes
Creo is hosting a Sunday brunch to celebrate a year of marriage equality. Twenty percent of the bill benefits The Aids Council of Northeastern New York. Sunday from 10-3.
