This is one of those April weekends you'll appreciate more when the May flowers start blooming.

Looks like we've got to make our own sunshine -- metaphorically speaking of course.

Art Night
It's Art Night in Schenectady. By tonight you may need your Wellies or an umbrella, but stores are open late with art and music. Keith Pray plays blues in Robb Alley, Sonny and Perely are at The Stockade Inn and Proctor's presents South Pacific. You'll find a full schedule here. While you're in town, get some goat cheese spring rolls at Cella Bistro. Nommmmm!

Music
Erin Harkes, fresh from her appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show, plays Savannah's (The Dublin Underground) tonight from 6-8.

Che Guevara T-Shirt and Friends of the Library are downstairs at Valentine's tonight.

Mirk and the New Familiars are at The Lark Tavern tonight. The show starts at 10.

There's a Dryer reunion show with Matthew Carefully tonight at Saratoga's Putnam Den

If you're in Troy tonight, and you like to dance, drop by Brown's and catch Franklin MiCare in his pork pie hat.

There's a CD release party for Jared Funari upstairs at Valentine's on Saturday night with the Emergency Vampire and Mirk and the New Familiars. 8PM

Jakob Dylan is at The Egg Saturday night with Neko Case and Three Legs 7:30 $33

Shawn Colvin will also be at The Egg on Saturday night at 8. $34.50

Sean Rowe is at Brown's on Saturday night at 9

Film
Tonight at Page Hall, the NYS Writer's Institute presents the 1951 British film The Tales of Hoffmann. Based on an 1881 Opera, it's the story of a young man's dreams of romantic adventure told through music and ballet. By the directors of The Red Shoes. 7PM Free.

Dance
Saturday is the Saratoga Savoy Diamond Dance at the Saratoga Music Hall. Doc Scanlon's Rythm Boys are the featured band this month.
Dance from 8-11:30 and enjoy the snacks $15 (there's a free lesson at 7:30)

DJs Properly Chilled and Lazer and Blazer are at Quintessance on Saturday Night.

Comedy
Tess Lark Tavern hosts local stand-up comedians at The Brew Ha-Ha Comedy showcase, Saturday Night at 8:30

The Mop and Bucket Company is improvising Underground at Proctor's on Friday night at 8PM $14

Theater
The Shuster Play Reading Series wraps up at Home Made Theater in Saratoga, with The Wedding Play. Sunday afternoon at 3. Free.

Kids Stuff
Visit the baby animals at Hancock Shaker Village.

The New York Theatre Ballet brings the classic Sleeping Beauty to The Egg on Sunday afternoon at 3

Celebrate Poetry Month
Upstate Artists Guild is holding a weekend long poetry celebration. It starts tonight at 5 with a Youth Open Mike. Then at 7pm the 12 Hour poetry open Mic begins. Check out the work of poets from around the Capital Region or sign up for a slot yourself. If that's not enough for you, there's more poetry on Saturday night at 8. Donations are suggested for Friday night's performances. Saturday's show is $5

Seeing Ourselves
There are only a few weeks left to see the George Eastman photo exhibit at the NYS Museum.

Make Art
The Albany Art Room has all kinds of materials to make your own art. A fun way to pass a rainy day.

Tour of the Battenkill
It's pro-weekend for cyclists up in Washington County, but if you like bike races, you can watch and cheer them on this Sunday.

There's also a benefit ride for wounded veterans on Saturday morning at 9.

Clean up
Sunday from 1-4 there's a clean-up of the bike path and shore line of the Corning Preserve. Volunteers are meeting at the parking lot under the I-787 overpass off Water Street. For more information call 475-0291.

Umbrella shopping
If you don't have good spring rain gear, it might be time to get some.

Instant Sunshine
Rain schmain. Gelato is back at Crisan and almost all of the seasonal ice cream places are open for the season. Try someplace on the AOA Ice Cream Tour.
