The Vermonster

It's Forget the Resolution week on AOA: a whole lineup of foods that can send your New Year's resolution to eat better/eat less/exercise more/lose weight to its timely end.

Forget the resolution week is just about over. Still have room for dessert?

Oh, come on -- it's just a little ice cream.

Well, maybe a little more than a little.

Get ready to take on... The Vermonster!

One scoop of Ben and Jerry's ice cream is about 250 calories.

A hot fudge sundae (two scoops, hot fudge and whipped cream) is estimated at about 750 calories.

The Vermonster starts with 20 scoops of ice cream. Then they add hot fudge, carmel, nuts, a brownie, 3 giant cookies, 4 bananas, whipped cream and four toppings of your choice.

You do the math.

This sundae is so big they make it in a bucket.

Christian at Ben & Jerry's in Saratoga made one for us this week. He says he's actually seen a single person devour the Vermonster on two occasions. We'll trust him on this -- but we find it hard to believe. This sundae is built to be shared.

A few tips when taking on the Vermonster

+ You will need help. Lots of it. So bring reinforcements.

+ It is commonly eaten directly out of the bucket, so if you're squeemish about people double dipping -- this may not be the dessert option for you. Sure you can scoop it out of the bucket and into individual dishes, but something about that seems to defeat the purpose. Why not order 10 individual sundaes?

+ Those with nut allergies should be extra careful when ordering. With all the ingredients in this thing, it could be easy to overlook something.

+ Wear a sweater -- some of our crew were shivering before it was over.

So how far did we get?

At first I thought this post was going to be about Nessie!
A bucket of ice-cream that... caloric is only slightly more believable.

I meant Champ, not Nessie!

Cute girls, but all that ice cream kind of put me off eating it ever again!

Adorable girls! I can't believe they braved that. I love ice-cream and sundaes but holy sh*t, Vermontster!

This is great. I've always wanted to try the Vermonster, but I am a little big (OK, a lot) squeamish about the double dipping. I could handle it to the gloppy point, then I'd have to bail out. The spoons would just get too close to one another.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
