The Parlor is playing an album release show this weekend with Sgt Dunbar and The Red Lions.

We're in for a weekend that should be lovely, if a little bit cool. Excellent for kite flying and egg hunting.

1st Friday
Tonight is the first 1st Friday of the spring in Albany. Wander around the city and check out the new art in shops and galleries. Chip Fasciana's "Life & Death" exhibit at Albany Center Gallery uses found materials to explore connections between experiences. The Albany Barn hosts a group photography show with work by Nicole Campon, K. Michelle Doyle, David Fialkoff, David Mark, Carrie Will. The Albany Aquaducks trolley will be running tours every half hour. Post 1st Friday events include the Capital Swing Dance at the Elks Lodge on South Allen Street ($20) with Doc Scanlon's Rhythm Boys, Chris Lyons, The Deja Voodoo Boys, Peter Davis, The Tichy Boys, Johnnie Rabb, and The Josh Fialkoff Trio plus Dan & Jenny. Alien Nation is at The Fuze Box and Roxie Tart hosts her 1920s burlesque review at Paradiso ($12). You can find the full listing of eventshere.

Theater

Young Frankenstein
The touring production of the Broadway musical of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein makes a one-day stop at Proctors on Saturday. 2 pm - $20 and up

Black Pearl Sings
Black Pearl Sings closes this weekend at Capital Rep. Friday 8 pm, Saturday 3pm & 8pm. No show Sunday $20-$60

Sunset Blvd.
"Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close up." Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version of the classic film by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett opens this weekend at Cohoes Music Hall. Tonight at 8, Saturday at 3&8. No show on Sunday.$25-$35.

MopCo.
MopCo.: You never know. The Mop and Bucket improv company has a new show Underground at Proctors. It's a mix of short-form scenes and improv games, and it's different every week. Friday at 8 pm - $14, $6

Saturday: Michael Daves at The Linda
"Punk-infused roots" guitar. With: Whit Connah and Barbara Panter. Hosted by Dan Johnson and his Expert Sidemen. 8 pm - $18

At EMPAC, choreographer Kota Yamazaki presents a work that "draws on his own deep background in butoh, a dance form developed in Japan after WWII that embraces darkness, and connects it with traditional African dance and contemporary movement to mine the inherent similarities between these forms." Friday 8 pm - $18

Canstruction
Using donated cans of food, teams designed and constructed a zoo at the NYS Museum for this year's Canstruction project. The can animals (canimals?) were built this week and will be on display through April 28. Then they'll be broken down and given to the Food Pantries of the Capital District. Free.

Cherry Hill Restoration Tour
Historic Cherry Hill reopens for the season on Saturday. Tours at 2 &3. $5, $4 students and seniors, $2 for kids 12-18.

U.S.S. Slater
The WWII destroyer escort docked at the Port of Albany reopened for the season this week. Tours are an hour and start every 20 minutes. 10am - 4pm. $7, $6 seniors, $5 kids.

Baby animals
Awwww. Yep, the Baby Animal Days have begun at Hancock Shaker Villiage. What's it like? Check out Dawn's visit from a few years ago. Tours Daily from 10 am-4 pm

Drive-in
It seems a little chilly yet, but apparently it's alrady drive-in movie season. The Hollywood is screening The Lorax and Hunger Games tonight and Saturday. (No Sunday show). The Malta has Mirror Mirror and The Lorax on one screen and Wrath of the Titans and 21 Jump Street on the other.

Ice cream
Kurver Kreme, The Snowman,Jack's Drive In in Wynantskill, and Jumpin' Jack's and lots of other seasonal joints are now open. Go to it!

Farmers' markets
Winter farmers' markets are open this weekend: Saturday in Troy and Saratoga, and Sunday in Schenectady.

Brunch
It's one of the best ways to spend a lazy weekend morning. Here are a few fun brunch options and some great diner breakfast stops.
