Holiday wish list: Albany Jane

TOP2011 final judges overhead

The holiday season is a time for making wish lists, and shopping lists. In an effort to help you with both, we're asking a handful of people what's on their local holiday wish list this year.

Today, the final wish list. It's from AOA pizza judge, blogger, and lover of tasty things Albany Jane.

Dear Santa,

December is a month of feasting and celebrating. This is the year I really feel like I have everything I need -- a fantastic circle of loving family and friends, tasty eats on my plate, and a general sense of optimism and well-being.

That said, there are a few things I wouldn't mind having. Here's a little list:

Food stuff
+ A gift certificate to some of my favorite local eateries like Ala Shanghai, The Ruck, or DeFazio's Pizza to stuff my face with tasty eats in future months.

+ I've never had much of an eye for decorating, so I'd rather deck my halls with ropes of sausages from Rolf's Pork Store or Italian sausages from Roma Foods. Who needs holly and ivy when you can nibble from a dangling weisswurst?

Clothing stuff
+ I love pretty much everything at Troy Cloth & Paper (the newly launched clothing side of Design It Together), especially all of their mustache-related stuff. Seriously, how cute is this mustache riding a penny farthing shirt? They manage to combine clean, simple, and quirky into one print.

Experience stuff
I would like to keep meeting and eating with other local bloggers I haven't met IRL-sies yet. Mr. Dave, especially, tops that list: he's the one local blogger who's even more reclusive and anonymous than I am.

Fitness stuff!
Winter = exercise boredom. Thankfully there are many places in the area to find an exercise class to change up the ol' exercise routine and keep things from getting boring.
+ The Good Karma Studio (behind Little Anthony's in Albany) for gravity yoga classes. $17 for 1+ hour of stretching, relaxing, and flipping in the air.
+ The Fitness Artist in Clifton Park has some night classes M-Th, and $29.99 translates to 10 classes a month.
+ While I generally lack balance and grace, the adult dance classes at the Troy Dance Factory would also be fun; and the barre classes, well, maybe I'd stand a chance at honing my coordination.

Tickets
Tickets to the Excision concert in March at the Washington Avenue Armory so I can get my wub wub on. (And maybe a pair of ear plugs so I don't blow my eardrums out.)

Cheers,
Albany Jane

P.S. Sorry ahead of time for taking a bite out of at least one of the cookies I'm going to leave out for you.

Ha! I am flattered. One of these days I shall creep out of the shadows...

I kind of like anonymity though... It allows me to say whatever I want without having to worry so much about what people think about it.

What a sad case. It's very difficult to find a developer with the resources, vision, and commitment to take on a costly and risky project like St. Joe's. It's a shame that the hidebound conservatism of the neighborhood stymied the first and only realistic, pragmatic, and frankly very cool, project to come along in many years. I hope the church and the neighborhood gets one more shot, although I'm not optimistic.
