A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-05-07

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Martin was back on the Sunday Soapbox, talking about how the backyard chicken issue has made him frustrated with government.

+ About backyard chickens... the Albany Common Council passed the ordinance -- it just needs a signature from the mayor.

+ Elisabeth asked about finding a good fence installer.

+ We asked people about their favorite taste memory from childhood as part of a giveaway for A Taste of Albany. There were a lot of great answers.

+ Liz took on us on a photo tour of Albany's new branch libraries.

+ Rue asked a good manicure/pedicure place.

+ Shannon shared some follow up on an Ask AOA about oral surgeons.

+ Carrie asked about long-distance moving companies.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: chickens, violets, the Palace, getting cheap, a wedding shower, beef tongue and octopus, pizza, eggs, mounted sharks, sliced bread, detailing, and a birthday.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: a weinermobile, yet another reason to listen to your mom, and a request to sire Jedi offspring.

+ This past winter was one of the snowiest on record in Albany.

+ We'll pulled together a really big list of interesting/fun concerts that are coming up over the next few months.

+ Miriam asked about finding a good tree removal service -- and people had lots of good advice.

+ State Street is now cleaner thanks to a band of teens wearing wooden shoes.

+ It's Tulip Festival weekend -- so here are 20 facts about tulips.

+ Results from the Best Cleaners spring refresh: Michael (crush-inducing) and Emily (a total dish) ended up looking great!

+ And here's the slate of entries for the Sunmark Startup Grant. There are a bunch of interesting projects! The crowd picks two of the finalists -- voting ends Sunday at 6 pm.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
