Stuff to do this weekend
Welcome to another edition of Stuff to Do This Weekend -- the weekly post where we enumerate for you all sorts of, well, stuff you can do this weekend. The name is very apt.
This weekend's possibilities include jazz, cider, winter festivals, Tiffany glass, and butterflies -- and that's not even half of it.

Troy Night Out
Friday: This month's Troy Night Out celebrates the city's Tiffany windows.
+ Historian Tom Carroll will give a talk on Louis Comfort Tiffany and Troy's Tiffany windows.
+ St.Paul's Church will celebrate Louis Comfort Tiffany's birthday with cupcakes and a tour of its Tiffany widows.
+ The Arts Center for the Capital Region hosts a modern dance concert and an interactive gaming showcase by Tech Valley Game Space.

Gathering of the Farm Cideries
Saturday: Nine Pin Cider Works in Albany hosts the 2nd annual Gathering of the Farm Cideries. Eleven farm cideries will be offering cider made from New York apples. Sample unique batches and purchase ciders by the glass, growler, or bottle. two event sessions: Saturday from noon to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm --$15 ahead (and they're limited)
Schenectady Restaurant Week
Friday-Sunday: Restaurant week wraps up this weekend in Schenectady. Participating restaurants are offering $25-per-person prix fixe menus that include an appetizer, entree and dessert.
Saratoga Home and Lifestyle Show
Friday-Sunday: The annual Saratoga Rotary Home and Lifestyle Show is at the Saratoga City Center. More than a hundred exhibitors, along with prizes and special events. Friday 5 pm to 9 pm / Saturday 9 am to 7 pm / Sunday 10 am to 4 pm -- free admission
Deconstructing the Beatles
Saturday: Composer/producer Scott Freiman is at Proctors this weekend for a pair of his popular "Deconstructing The Beatles" lectures -- first about Rubber Soul and the other A Trip through Strawberry Fields. (Freiman's talks are pretty popular and usually sell out, so double check before you head out.) Saturday at 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm -- $35 / $10 students
Winter Carnival
Friday-Sunday: The Lake George Winter Carnival continues every weekend through the month of February. This weekend's events include a chicken wing cook-off, fireworks, helicopter rides and marshmallow toasting on the beach. Saturday and Sunday various times -- free admission
#BlackLivesMatter co-creator Alicia Garza at Skidmore
Saturday: Activist Alicia Garza will be giving a talk about the Black Lives Matter movement at Skidmore. Garza, along with Opal Tometi and Pattrisse Cullors, created #BlackLivesMatter on Twitter following the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin. Saturday 5 pm, Palamountain Hall - free and open to the public
Stage
Glengarry Glen Ross
Friday-Sunday: Curtain Call Theater continues a production of David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross -- the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a cutthroat world in which real estate salesmen vie for success. Leave the kids home for this one -- there's lots of adult language. Friday and Saturday 8 pm / Sunday 3 pm -- $24
Agnes of God
Friday-Sunday: Confetti Stage opens a production of Agnes of God in the theater at the Albany Masonic Hall. Friday & Saturday 7:30 pm / Sunday at 2 pm -- $15 / $10 students
I Am My Own Wife
Friday-Sunday: Creative License presents the Tony-winning one-man show I Am My Own Wife at the Albany Barn. The play explores the true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, "a transvestite and celebrated antiques dealer who successfully navigated the two most oppressive regimes of the past century-the Nazis and the Communists-while openly gay and defiantly in drag." Friday and Saturday 7:30 pm -- $15
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Friday-Saturday: Home Made Theater in Saratoga presents a production of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Friday and Saturday at 8pm -- $24 / $27

Paula Poundstone
Friday: Comedian Paula Poundstone brings her stand-up act to the Charles Wood Theater in Glens Falls. Friday 8 pm -- $59.50
Rory Albanese
Friday-Saturday: Rory Albanese -- executive producer of the The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, and a former Daily Show writer/executive producer -- is playing a string of stand-up shows at The Comedy Works in Albany. Friday and Saturday 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm - $15 ahead / $20 day of (show only)
Theatersports
Friday: It's the final round of the Theatersports season Proctors this week. Two teams compete against each other creating scenes and songs based on audience suggestions. Think Whose Line is it Anyway?. Friday 8 pm -- $14 / $6 students and seniors

Missing People
Friday: Director David Shapiro will be at Page Hall on UAlbany's downtown campus for a NYS Writers Institute screening of his film Missing People. The film is a nonfiction mystery about a woman investigating her brother's unsolved murder. Friday 7 pm -- free
Classics
+ The Saturday and Sunday morning Movies and Mimosa classic at the Bow Tie is the Elvis movie Love Me Tender.
+ The Friday and Saturday late night Insomnia Theater at the Saratoga Bow Tie is The Breakfast Club.
Pecha Kucha
Friday: The Opalka Gallery on the Sage Albany campus is hosting another PechaKucha night. A lineup of speakers each present 20 slides and talk about each slide for 20 sections. Among the speakers: Andrew Kyrstopolski performing a 6 minute and 40 second set of music improvisation alongside his slide show, an improvised talk by artist and performer Gregor Wynnyczuk, and talks by Jon Turo of Druthers Brewing, artist Michael Oatman, novelist Elisa Albert, and writer Michael Janeiro. Winter weekends are great times to wander through one of the Capital Region's museums.
Butterflies
Saturday-Sunday: MiSci's butterfly house is now open. "Discover hundreds of brilliantly colored native butterflies." The exhibit continues through April 19. free with museum admission
Shakers
This is the next to last weekend to see the exhibit The Shakers: America's Quiet Revolutionaries at the State Museum. It closes on March 6.
Collecting and 50 Objects
You can check out the Masterworks: 225 Years of Collecting exhibit at the Albany Institute. And there'a also The Capital Region in 50 Objects exhibit.
Rockwell
The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls recently opened Norman Rockwell in the 1960s, featuring 21 illustrations and original magazine covers "created by the beloved artist during a decade of change and turmoil." (And while you're there, here are some fun places to eat in Glens Falls.)
+ If you're interested in more Norman Rockwell, you can head over to Stockbridge for the Norman Rockwell Museum.
Eye for Excellence
The Clark has a good permanent collection, and there's currently an exhibit about how works have been added to it.
Anachronism & Inaccuracy: The Challenges of Writing Historical Fiction
Saturday: The Schenectady Public Library hosts historical mystery writer Eleanor Kuhns talk on Anachronism & Inaccuracy: The Challenges of Writing Historical Fiction. Saturday 10:30 am -- free (the library does ask that you pre-register)
Skating
