A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-05-21

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Sunday Soapbox: chef Noah Sheetz shared some of his favorite local fast food spots (you know, fast food that's not a chain).

+ Amy asked about finding a good clock repair shop.

+ We recapped four local college graduation speeches in four lines (or so).

+ Elisa Streeter made us laugh -- laughing.

+ Sebastien and Bennett shared some photos from the Vacant Lot Project in Albany.

+ We had an internal dialogue about Engelbert Humperdinck.

+ Stephanie asked about good Albany neighborhoods in which to buy a house.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: a different life, an affirmation of life, cyanide, old things, frozen yogurt, pastrami, lobsters, a bloody mary, tiny hot dogs, Indian Ladder, Dan Eaton, a mural, and Brother Al.

+ We talked with Stephen Hallenbeck, who's cycling 500 miles for wounded veterans.

+ It's now official: ShopRite is coming (back) to the Capital Region.

+ We gave Albany All Stars roller derby tickets by asking, "Dude, what's your problem?!?"

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: an instrument for inducing "seething jealousy" in your co-workers, a "frustratingly straight, yet ridiculously curious" woman, a band in search of mustaches, and a flock of chickens.

+ We heard a little bit about the new Malta Drive-in Market from its owner.

+ Leah asked about finding a good yard service to tackle her overgrown yard. (Still looking for a few answers on this one.)

+ We asked about things of which you'd like to know, "Whatever happened to..."

+ The Sun went missing. And it rained. A lot.

+ The finalists for the Sunmark Startup Grant delivered their presentations -- and the judges picked a winner.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?

If winter ever gets its act together and drops more snow on us, there will be sidewalks to shovel. And shortly after that, Albany will... (more)
