A quick recap of the week

week review 2012-05-12

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Soapbox: Christine argued that even though Whole Foods coming to the Capital Region is good -- a Whole Foods at Colonie Center is not good.

+ Chuck Schumer hopped on board the idea of making the Livingston Ave Bridge pedestrian and bike friendly.

+ Daniel says you should eat the fried oysters at Ted's Fish Fry.

You might have heard: Barack Obama visited UAlbany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering Tuesday:

+ A video clip of Air Force One arriving.
+ Tweets, pics, and whatnot about this visit.
+ The text of his speech.
+ And what it was like to cover the event (probably not what you'd expect).

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: Lark Street at night, the Albany Almshouse, how we treat animals, not finding a dog-friendly apartment, Rosary Beard, speakeasy vibe, restaurant value, the Tour de Hard Ice Cream, ridiculously fun ravioli, 20 words, the Crossings, waste places, and Fifty Shades of Gray.

+ We ranked Capital Region property tax rates using data from SeeThroughNY.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: tickling, annoyance at elevator behavior, missed connection as existential question, and The Pageant of Prom Dresses of Unusual Taste.

+ The HBO movie Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight filmed in Albany and Schenectady -- we stopped by one of the Albany locations to gawking at the filming.

+ Introducing the world's first tulip augmented reality app.

+ More answers to questions you didn't ask.

+ And the this year's group of Sunmark Startup Grant applications arrived. Voting is now closed and the finalists will be announced on Monday.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
