A quick recap of the week

week review 2015-04-10

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ The full field for this year's AOA Startup Grant was revealed, and it includes a bunch of interesting projects. Crowd voting for the finalists ended Friday afternoon. We'll announce the three finalists on Monday.

Also: The finalists' presentations to judges will be open to the public this year -- it's free to attend.

+ JetBlue is starting service out of ALB -- and officials are hoping that will affect prices -- so we looked at some airfare numbers.

+ Congrats to Jenna for winning this year's AOA NCAA Tournament pool. Jenna's comment on her victory: "I definitely have never watched a basketball game before."

+ Ginny asked about where to get good, local compost for her garden.

+ Lauren talked with some local wedding planners about what's new, interesting, and different in the Capital Region wedding scene. (Hint: donuts.)

+ We gave away tickets to Pianoply at EMPAC + a Peck's Arcade gift certificate by asking: What's one of your favorite sounds? (There were a lot of good answers.)

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: education, meat, food allergies, Lord Kelvin, Catholicism, Millerton, Troy Night Out, staycationaurant, Nibble, TC Paris, The Hollow, 23-layer potato, from-NYC bagels, being charged for tap water, being out of cheese, and the return of the herons.

+ Pedestrian-focused signage in downtown Albany prompted some interesting discussion.

+ Albany is Albany because of beavers. (OK, not totally because of beavers...)

+ And there are coyotes among us.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared an idea or photo this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?

If winter ever gets its act together and drops more snow on us, there will be sidewalks to shovel. And shortly after that, Albany will... (more)
