A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-05-27

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Sunday Soapbox: Chuck set off quite a discussion about chain stores people would like to see in the Capital Region. Following up on that, we pulled together the closest locations for the most-mentioned chains.

+ Albany's tap water ranked among the best-tasting in the country.

+ The Albany Parking Violations Bureau now includes photographic proof with its tickets.

+ A short, incomplete tour of places in the Capital Region to work that are not your office. How to work in those places without being a jerk.

+ Eat this: Tanuki Udon at Sushi Tei.

+ Matthew asked about where to buy a suit.

+ Can you guess what this building in Saratoga is going to be?

+ The proposal for Troy City Center, the selected plan for the redevelopment of the former Troy city hall site, was unveiled.

+ Camilo asked about summer stuff to do with his teenage brother who will be visiting.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: things that will be missed, MMA, riding the bus, crosswalks, fog, the people ahead of you in line, masons, St. Theresa, fresh eggs, corned beef hash, a stupefying dessert, potluck, and a beautiful beetle.

+ We got a tour of the University Club in Albany (it has its own bowling alley).

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: a salutation blocked by vomit, curve hugging, remarkable french frying, a chainsaw-carved gnome, and a "vintage" Mac.

+ Katie considered what's ahead for the Niskayuna Co-op now that ShopRite is setting up down the street.

+ The new City Beer Hall opened -- with its mechanical bull.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
