A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-11-05 grilled cheese comics turkeys phantogram

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Amtrak added free wi-fi to the Empire Service -- and Carl showed that it works.

+ A man died in a bizarre incident involving the police at the Gold's Gym in Latham -- and a few of the people who were there wrote about it online.

+ Wendy told us about why there's a cemetery at the Rotterdam Square Mall.

+ Phantogram released a new mini-album.

+ Daniel says you should eat the grilled cheese at All Good Bakers.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: Michael Pollan, Occupy Albany, creeping out at the Capitol/ESP, local ghost stories, costumes, the Breeder's Cup, interesting frost, Cooperstown, pusties, banh mi, an old restaurant, soy sauce, cupcakes, winning at the racino, the car dealership cat, Plotterkill, and tea frustration.

+ Emily checked out the new Capital Comics Collective.

+ There's a remarkable art project being created at the State Museum.

+ We rolled the numbers on pot prices around New York State. Dude.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: a question about turtlenecks, squeezing melons, drawing attention while wearing Vibram FiveFingers, and a suit of armor.

+ We gave away tickets to TEDxAlbany by asking: What's one interesting thing you've noticed recently?

+ The PEF membership approved the revised contract with the state, layoffs averted.

+ Siobhan visited a turkey farm in Rensselaer County.

+ It looks like the movie that shot in Albany two summers ago is getting closer to a release.

+ And we answered more questions that weren't necessarily asked.

If you'd just like the whole week unfiltered, check our listing of the last seven days of AOA.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
