A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-12-24

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Soapbox: Leigh talked about the local vegetarian dining scene -- and how she still misses Shades of Green.

+ We pulled together video of a bunch of the talks from TEDxAlbany 2011.

+ Alex is looking to join a new gym -- so he asked for suggestions.

+ After asking people what their car radio presets are, we counted the station mentions and put together an AOA "crowd radio."

+ We celebrated Festivus with a traditional Airing of Grievances. Thanks to everyone who shared their grievances!

+ It appears the "Will Trader Joe's come to the Capital Region?" saga could be nearing an end.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: an unsettling holiday story, roadside memorials, drive-thrus, the Little Red Schoolhouse, karma at Stewart's, spring, sushi, cheese fudge, duck prosciutto, Chinese food, vegan pizza, strategy at the OTB, tension with Santa, and how communists celebrate Christmas.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: something that was never going to happen, majestic womanly company on ice, and frozen mice that had to go before Christmas

+ A teacher in Vorheesville allegedly bit a student. Yep, you read that correctly.

A lot of action at Occupy Albany this week:

+ Occupy Albany made its first official demand.
+ As its permit for Academy Park was about to expire, we asked members what they think they've accomplished.
+ And Thursday afternoon, the city removed Occupy Albany from the park. There was drama.

+ Our last two local holiday wishlists: Sarah LaDuke from WAMC -- and the AOA Editors (and Otto).

+ And you know the famous "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" newspaper column? Virginia -- the Virginia -- lived in Valatie, and there's video of her reading the column there.

If you'd just like the whole week unfiltered, check our listing of the last seven days of AOA.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared a photo or idea this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
