A quick recap of the week

week review 2014-06-13

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Tickets went on sale this week for our biggest-ever AOA summer tour: Rail, River, Hudson!

+ We gave away season tickets to the ValleyCats by asking: What marks the start of summer in the Capital Region for you?

+ Lightning shredded a tree at Saratoga Spa State Park -- and it was captured on video.

+ Deanna said now is the time to try Kay's Pizza in Averill Park. (In part because it's only open during the summer.)

+ Matt asked about where to take dance lessons.

+ This documentary -- created during the 1960s and 70s -- about the building of the Empire State Plaza is super interesting.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: trails, an island in the lake, Tough Mudder, side trip poutine, Four Fat Fowl, a cooking class, City Beer Hall, ample chicken parm, dodging the news, silver status, and why.

+ How much parking is enough for the Park South redevelopment project in Albany?

+ Something Tim brought to our attention: Competitive pedestrianism was once a popular sport -- and its biggest star competed in Troy. (The story is weird and funny and a touch sad.)

+ This year's Sculpture in the Streets installation is in place: actual, playable pianos.

+ Ahead of Albany Comic Con, we talked Troy resident Jen Wicks, who's created some pretty great cosplay costumes.

+ And Amelia asked about finding a trainer who's good with working with people with health issues. We could use some suggestions on this one.

Here's the whole week all lined up.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared an idea or photo this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
