A quick recap of the week

week review 2012-05-05

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Soapbox: Martin confronted his fear of death by going to the Albany Rural Cemetery. At night.

+ Death Cab for Cutie is coming to Ommegang, and Conor Oberst to The Egg. Squee.

+ Michelle asked about finding clothing for an Indian wedding.

+ The head of Regal theaters -- which owns a bunch of movie theaters in the Capital Region -- floated the idea of explicitly allowing texting during some screenings.

+ We gave away tickets to the Rosary Beard show by asking people about their favorite facial hair.

+ The Capital Region's high-tech manufacturing got national TV attention -- ABC covered GlobalFoundries, and CBS covered UAlbany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

+ Occupy Albany re-emerged.

+ Joey asked about good places to go for happy hour.

+ We gave away tickets to upcoming Champagne on the Park by asking: What's something classy about the Capital Region?

+ A bear was captured in Albany.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: ShopRite ShopRite ShopRite ShopRite, the trail of the sun, a place for active people, no-smoking designations, Pillar Rock, baby animals, a love letter to DeFazio's, Burger Centric, wings in Clifton Park, a knife, treasures in the attic, violet season, and the reason for getting into a boxing ring.

+ We talked with the State Museum's curator of birds about New York's (now extinct) native parrot.

+ Nick asked about where to watch the Kentucky Derby.

+ Joe Bruno was indicted. Again.

+ You might have heard: Whole Foods is coming to Albany.

+ Of course, that prompted the inevitable question: What about Wegmans?

+ You also might have heard: Barack Obama will be visiting next week -- but not where originally indicated.

+ And this year's Alive at Five lineup is out.

If you'd just like the whole week unfiltered, check our listing of the last seven days of AOA.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared a photo or idea this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
