A quick recap of the week

week review 2012-06-23

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Soapbox: Mary talked about what was lost after being robbed -- and it wasn't the stuff.

+ We gave away a pair of tickets to a beer dinner at Central Steak by asking: What are two things in the Capital Region that would pair together well? There were some fun answers.

+ Morrissey is playing the Palace this fall.

+ Here's a rundown of Capital Region swimming pools and when they open (many of them already have!).

+ An art exhibit is coming to a local billboard.

+ The zones and streets for the Albany parking permit system were finalized (yep, we have maps).

+ Discussion about the permit system prompted us to wonder: Does the city owe you (or anyone) a parking spot?

+ Daniel ate his words at Bros Tacos -- and a carnitas taco.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: Father's Day, Cooperstown, supporting what you enjoy, a disappearing island, pesticides, parking, Comfort Kitchen, wild game, har gow, bad beer, The Springs, cookie diplomacy, a survey, a trip up the Hudson, plants, the train, the Knickerbocker News, and a turkey.

+ Casey shared some vegan dishes from around the Capital Region that are worth trying -- whether you're a vegan or a carnivore.

+ Photos from the Troy > Albany Tour -- it was a good time!

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: Kayla with the hippo backpack, a life changing moment, pizza shops, and legs.

+ Casey got a look at the new Bier Abbey in Schenectady.

+ And Terry asked about where to go fossil hunting with his son.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What a sad case. It's very difficult to find a developer with the resources, vision, and commitment to take on a costly and risky project like St. Joe's. It's a shame that the hidebound conservatism of the neighborhood stymied the first and only realistic, pragmatic, and frankly very cool, project to come along in many years. I hope the church and the neighborhood gets one more shot, although I'm not optimistic.
