A quick recap of the week

week review 2013-08-31

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ The fall slate for the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series is out. As usual, it includes a bunch of interesting events.

+ Sarah asked about finding a good stylist for a pixie cut.

+ We can now say we've tried the apple cider croissant donut from the Crisp Cannoli in East Greenbush. (And it was really good.)

+ We gave away tickets to the Altamont Craft Beer Fest by asking people: What's your favorite autumn drink or food?

+ Stewart's milk got a perfect score at the State Fair -- which prompted some discussion about milk in general.

+ The Wandering Dago food truck filed a lawsuit against the state Office of General Services and NYRA over being refused the opportunity to vend this summer -- it's arguing that bouncing the truck on the basis of its name is a violation of 1st Amendment rights.

+ The latest stop in Casey's in-between places tour: Scotia.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: the mailman, covering Obama, CVS receipts, the hot pencil, the Old Stone Fort Museum, New York-Massachusetts-Vermont, Hoosic and Hudson, RPR, a day on the farm, the State Fair, 15 Church, the frankencake, Gus's, Troyster, a brew pub, and an ostentatious car.

+ We checked out the new Habitat ReStore location on Fuller Road -- it's big.

+ Kristen asked about finding a field of sunflowers.

+ Otis asked about finding someone to fix -- or get a similar replacement -- for an antique lock.

+ Trailers for movies shot in the Albany-area: Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight and Ass Backwards.

+ And yet more bumper gawking.

Here's the whole week all lined up.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared an idea or photo this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
