A quick recap of the week

week review 2012-02-11

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Soapbox: Martin had some suggestions for what could be considered the Capital Region's quintessential or signature food.

+ Shannon shared a fun map she created about the food regions of New York State.

+ The Megabus is coming to Saratoga (and going to Burlington).

+ After a handful of Lark Street spots were told to shut down their live entertainment, we looked at the situation surrounding Albany's current -- and proposed -- cabaret law.

+ We went through some data about how much people pay for rent in the Capital Region.

+ Stephen Sondheim is coming to HVCC -- and Mary's interviewing him.

+ We got a question about good local Valentine's Day gifts.

+ Katie asked about unpopular places to go on Valetine's Day.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: the Collar City, 10 year olds at the bus stop, the train to winter, an ice castle, the Trivia Bowl, the look, a community-supported restaurant, pasta craftsmanship, a new Thai place, a roots-returning sandwich, warm celery, Clifton Park, a community store, the Giants, and the best fungus.

+ We got a peek at the stuff you can't see at the Schenectady Museum.

+ If there was an Albany typeface, what would it be?

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: a Stanford looking for his Carrie, 47 beautiful women accompanied by tool sheds, a sausage stuffer, and Giants high heels.

+ Troy's mayor floated the idea of a pedestrian mall for downtown Troy -- which had a polarizing effect on people.

+ The Miss Albany Diner closed -- here are a bunch of tributes.

+ And a gourmet supermarket is coming to the Saratoga area.

If you'd just like the whole week unfiltered, check our listing of the last seven days of AOA.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared a photo or idea this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
