A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-01-15

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Shadi asked about how to get rid of a Christmas tree.

+ There's a gym in Albany where they'd all be drinking the Kool-Aid -- if cavemen had drunk Kool-Aid.

+ The thing about the weathervane atop Albany Academy? It's a fish story.

+ The NYS Writers Institute has lined up quite a slate for this upcoming season.

+ It's winter whether you like it or not -- you might as well be polite about it.

+ Looking for a wild place? Try the Lisha Kill Natural Area.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: thumbs down for the Dino, the Food and Wine Festival, a deity at Cafe Capriccio, a mac 'n cheese burger, pho, pastries, weather-related amnesia, gastroenterologists, dog boots, eagles, sledding and a sad scene.

+ Here are a few simple guidelines for how to behave (or not behave) at a roller derby bout.

+ Speaking of roller derby -- we asked people how much snow they got as part of our Hellions ticket giveaway.

+ Yes, it do snow -- a bit more than expected.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: suggestive cuke handling, a guy who's about to go cuckoo for Coco Puffs, and a piece of Three Rivers Stadium.

+ The Hall of Governors at the state Capitol: a fascinating journey through the history of facial hair.

+ We talked with a guy who's creating works of art with his iPhone.

+ There was a 1980s sighting.

+ Be careful of going to Europe -- you never know what the state is going to build while you're gone.

+ And say hello to Akum and Liz, AOA's new associate editors.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared an idea this week!

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
