A quick recap of the week

week review 2011-02-05

+ We talked with a few of the talented teens involved with the Grand Street Arts' Youth FX film program.

+ Jesse asked about local Japanese translation services.

+ We asked people about what they stock up on before an Icy, Snowy Apocalypse.

+ Eat This! is back, fussier than ever. This week: the Dahi Puri at Parivar.

+ We collected answers to Albany Jane's question about where to buy a sled.

+ Liz went for an icy walk through the Plotterkill Preserve.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: Chuck Schumer and Snooki, the economic impact of snow, shoveled sidewalks, Spanish, belly, Korean food, you pick two, ethnic markets, electronic cigarettes, and a fire tower.

+ Akum visited the Saugerties Lighthouse.

+ We did some speed reading on the coverage of Andrew Cuomo's proposed budget.

+ Phantogram made its national TV debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

+ We had a drawing for a four course meal for two at the Wine Bar and Bistro on Lark -- and asked people about the best thing they've ever eaten (and there was a bunch of great answers).

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: back scratching, naked cooking lessons, a carved moose head, and a player piano.

+ James asked about local contractors for roof snow and ice removal. (We're still looking for more suggestions.)

+ Liz went shopping at Clothes Mentor.

+ Akum took a field trip to Krause's Candy in Colonie.

+ It turns out there are both Steelers and Packers bars in the Capital Region.

+ We went for another round of bumper gawking.

+ There's now a trailer for Virgin Alexander, the indie film that shot in Saratoga last year.

+ And there's an AOA virtual snow globe. We have to admit we spent a few minutes this week staring at it.

If you'd just like the whole week unfiltered, check our listing of the last seven days of AOA.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared an idea this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
