A quick recap of the week

week review 2012-01-07

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ The ice skating rink at the Empire State Plaza is open again. You should go.

+ Speaking of ice skating -- Nancy asked about a good place to get skates sharpened.

+ Daniel figured which of the Eat This! items from the past year is the tastiest -- using a tournament format.

+ 2011 was rather wet and snowy.

+ But this winter? Not snowy at all. We talked with WNYT meteorologist Jason Gough about why that is.

+ Fred asked about finding a good financial planner/adviser.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: a misconception, Saratoga bar problems, very good photos, flecks of gold, Saratoga best/worst, holiday season retail from the other side, bars on New Year's Eve, chevre cheesecake, the Olde English, a formidable sandwich, customer service to the rescue, Lasik, jazz-hands Santa, bald eagles, and pernicious discharges.

+ Jen shared some of the ways she's found to make running in cold weather more enjoyable.

+ Here's a quick scan of Andrew Cuomo's State of the State speech.

+ Michael asked about finding a good electrician.

+ Danielle shared her favorite local trivia night spots, night by night.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: peeling onions in Walmart, karma in the drive-thru, and moose (or is it meese?).

+ Mindy asked about where to rent chairs.

+ A new version of the Lark Tavern opened -- prompting a range of reactions.

+ And it finally happened: Trader Joe's officially announced it's coming to the Albany area.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
