A quick recap of the week

week review 2010-12-11

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ Sebastien shared some photos from the ESP tree lighting and fireworks.

+ There was a gurgling sound and then flames shot out of a hole in Central Ave on Monday.

+ Judy asked about good neighborhood Christmas light displays (still looking for more answers on this one).

+ Aaron asked about finding a good turkey burger.

+ We took a look at the proposed amendment that would allow people to keep hens in Albany.

+ The APD says a 12-year-old stole two cars in a week.

+ There was an interesting discussion about the chemicals police say they found in a grad student's apartment basement in Delmar.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: Trader Joe's, The Point, Ed Dague, salves, Cella Bistro, goulash, pizza, a mystery sushi chef, button pushing, free birthday drinks, hair colorists, trivia perfection, working Newfoundlands, and whimsical dogs.

+ We did a little math to see which destination offers the most warm weather for your airfare dollar.

+ The new Troy food co-op appears to be having some trouble.

+ Matt Baumgartner is reportedly "finalizing details" on a plan to open an English-style pub.

+ A few of the items found on Craigslist this week: naked house cleaning, a store full of attractive guys, recreational extras and a photo booth.

+ @tigerosa asked about finding a good tattoo place.

+ Albany High School (and Hackett Middle School and Schenectady High School) ended up on the state's list of "persistently lowest achieving" schools -- which prompted some interesting discussion.

+ Julie asked about finding a good dentist.

+ Crystal shared some great local finds on Etsy: jewelry, clothing, kids stuff, other stuff.

+ And Jess continued her list of local gift ideas: Adirondack carbon reduction certificates, the gift of garlic, shirts from Run, We Must.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
