A quick recap of the week

week review 2013-12-21

Here are a few highlights from the past week on AOA:

+ We mapped some new Census data on household income and poverty in New York State -- Saratoga County stands out, for a few reasons.

+ Kayla asked about digital photography classes.

+ Via Andrew: A view of Albany's snow-covered peak.

+ The Albany Common Council voted to advance the $110 million Park South redevelopment plan.

+ The Cuomo administration gave the OK to the scaled-down Albany convention center -- "Albany Capital Center."

+ It snowed some more, which got us thinking of underrated things about a snowy day.

+ DeFazio's got its trophy for winning this year's Tournament of Pizza -- and we learned a secret about its dough.

+ What was up in the Neighborhood this week: the Resolution Pat Down, the waterfront, Last Run, Victorian strolling, a new use for a pool, accepting Smalbany, the records stop, 1960s Colonie Center, the "Holy Grail of dim sum in the Capital Region," bibimbap, holiday goose, mussels, chardonnay-ing, a person a day, views of winter, and an abandoned house.

+ "We know not to whom we are indebted for the following description of that unwearied patron of children..."

+ Among the items found on Craigslist this week: a man-eating elevator.

+ Jona asked about finding a painter, specifically one who's good with high ceilings.

+ Daniel asked about where to find appetizings (food that goes with bagels).

And more holiday gift lists -- what people would like to give this year:

+ Holiday gift list: Nicole Lemperle Correia

+ Holiday gift list: Jim Larson

+ Holiday gift list: Lydia Kulbida

Here's the whole week all lined up.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment or shared an idea or photo this week!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
